I think these are great local races:
Fall For scenery and a fun challenging course, the NewportFed Half Marathon is a good one. Usually in October. The Christmas Run 10k in December in Newport is a favorite of mine as well.
The Pie Run 5miler on Thanksgiving uses part of the Newport Fed Half course.
The Bristol 10-miler goes right thru Colt state Park--good scenery, great course with wind, and lots of fun.
Summer
Gaspee Days 5k in June. An event. Great crowd. Good 5k course thru Pawtuxet Village
Arnold's Mills 4-miler on July 4th in Cumberland.
Blessing Of The Fleet 10 Miles ( in July)--about 2000 runners, some good beach scenery, festival afterwards, in Narragansett on a Friday evening.
Little Compton 4.8 on July 12 is a great summer race. Little Compton has a great FEEL to it that's hard to explain.
8/17 Common Fence Point 5m Portsmouth, RI--fun course, nice scenery, and a great time afterwards.
Run4Kerri on August 3--fun 4-miler like Little Compton.
Winter:
Hangover Classsic 5mi on New Years day
Super 5k in February in Narragansett.
Those are my favorites.
