Just a reminder for trail runners and runners who are in areas with large animals, watch out for mothers with babies.

This reminds me...snowdenrun hasn't been around in a while.
**Ask me about streaking**
Thanks for sharing FreeSoul-- where I am now, it's the humans on the trails I have to worry about, but I lived on kodiak island for a couple of years. Gorgeous place, but not so much for trail running unless you were armed, and still not the best idea. I saw how quickly those bears can move and knew not to risk it.
Moose are another beast to be wary of.
Heck, I've just got White-Tail in Southern Indiana and I don't want to run into either a mother and fawn or a rutting buck lol. I can only imagine living in areas with bears, moose and other large animals.
Endless trails
That's true, and she does live in Alaska, but I don't think she's a jogger.
I'm at Tacoma airport waiting for our flight to Fairbanks. Our daughter is getting married in Denali on Saturday. If not for my accident two months ago, I would be doing some trails while in AK. As it is, I will be a tasty morsel for a grizzly this time. Though less meat since I lost so much weight!
running under the BigSky
glad it turned out OK
when I run (or hike) in grizzly country I always carry spray- it's a proven deterrent and has saved numerous lives; obviously paying close attention to your environ is a top priority in any backcountry setting

They won't release her name, is snowdenrun married to a soldier?
Tim
No, she's a firefighter from Sitka.
“Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!
I wasn't suggesting it was her...just reminded me that she hasn't been around.
Hmmm too bad they won't release the name, anybody who can run in bear, moose, mountain lion country is badass in my opinion. Hell, anyone who runs in Africa or other countries with large predators is badass in my opinion.
She asked that her name not be released.
mtwarden (or anyone), do you carry bear specific pepper spray or just normal pepper spray? I've recently moved to N. California (east of Sacramento) and there have been a few bear sightings on/near the trails lately, so I'm considering getting some spray just in case.

True, wonder why?
I use UDAP- 8 oz, I think any of the bear sprays will do, do NOT get pepper spray designed for people- it's not strong enough and doesn't typically have enough volume- and if need be bear spray is very effective on people
