The Tuesdailies (Read 30 times)

The pooch and I had a nice, but sticky 4 mile trail run.  The knee continues to feel good but I an still taking it a bit easy on it.

17 after work yesterday. Heat index was 105, actual temp was around 92. That was hard, but I still managed an average pace of 10:22. I feel like last summer that level of effort would have only yielded about a 12:30 pace. So, I feel pretty good about that. Plus, I barely ate anything yesterday. I was pretty much running on empty. I'll do 3 to 5 this evening and another 15 or so tomorrow after work.

QOTD: This may be a weird question but... I noticed while following the WSER 100 this weekend a few folks commenting (mostly trolls I guess) negatively about Tim Olson. Basically, belittling his accomplishments as an ultra runner. Have any of you heard any of this, and what do you think of that?

I have heard this type of stuff for awhile now, specifically with Olson. I think it is a little bit ridiculous. The guy won that race twice, and one time was faster, by a good bit, than anyone has ever run that course before. I suppose this is what happens when someone lays it all on the line and finds a great deal of success. I don't understand why people belittle this guy (not that it is on a large scale), but the same folks give great accolades to Krar or Koerner or Jurek. I don't understand why someone would say that he is not a true champion, but that is basically what was implied. The incident I am referring to is isolated, but  as I said before, I have heard some of this before.

Now, I write all that, and at the same time, I look at the field at Hardrock and find myself saying, "I don't think Olson can win this race. It is too deep with high altitude specialists." And I say that despite the fact that he did very well at UTMB last year, 4th or 5th. Nevertheless, I think the guy is a great runner, with a great story.

6 on the rail trail today.  Planning to race this evening as part of a local XC weekly series.  Getting hot/humid, but looks like the weekend will be nice.

QOTD:  followed the race/results but not this level of commentary.

          5 late last night.

Trying to get back in the swing of things after three down weeks.

QOTD: I noticed a few people calling Krar a "runner" and Olson a "grinder".

Either way I think they're both better than I'll ever be. I gained a lot of admiration for Krar though.

You could tell from his interviews that this race had been his only thought for the last 52 weeks. Everything he did over the last year was to be ready for this race. I hope to be able to focus like that.

5 miles in hot, humid conditions.  I have more soreness from my fast-packing weekend than i usually have after races.  Guess I just need to get used to carrying a heavy pack.  Definitely works different muscles, especially hips.

QOTD:  Followed the race, but not the comments.  Any 2 time winner of the WSER can't be too shabby.  I know he's won Pine to Palm a couple of times and that course has 20,000' of climbing.  Haters gonna hate.

            “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

            Occasional Runner

I took to the trails for 6 miles with the pup. The legs are feeling great at the moment. I'm trying to stay rested and healthy for the race this weekend.

QOTD: I've never heard a negative comment about Timmy and don't know where it comes from. I know him and his wife pretty well and I think he's a genuine person. There are a lot of small minds with big opinions everywhere in this world and I think you're seeing a great example of that.

nice 6 miler this morning, beautiful morning- 48 at the trailhead, very slight breeze- some smoke rolled in- not sure where it came from, not Montana- somewhere beyond our borders???

qotd: not familiar w/ either of those names, I don't follow the sport too closely to be honest

Had a bonkfest 7 miler on the trails of Coventry Woods last night. I only could run decently on the flats and the easy downhills. Anything else I stumbling and bumbling around like a tired worn out amateur. Felt like I did during mile 20-22 at Laurel. Maybe I need to start taking gu along for my 7 mile evening runs. LOL. Still recovering I guess. I will do a similar run this evening. May hit the lake trails since it will be warm and humid.

QOTD: Didn't really follow the elites at WS. Tracked a few runners I knew instead. As for negative comments, well it's the internet and it's just that way. I don't see the point of the negative chatter.

In dog beers, I've only had one.

I think you are right. I was intrigued by the guy when I saw a video of the first WSER he did. He just looked like he was having a good time and really enjoying himself. Most of the comments I saw were from some anonymous troll on the twitter feed, which I find far better than relying on ham radio operators for updates by the way. A couple of people were giving him Hell about it. I just thought about it as I was running yesterday and started wondering why people say the stupid things they say... probably because they are stupid.

More likely because they are anonymous (and stupid).

Not sure what I will run tonight. Probably 6ish on the way home from work.  Then a little cross training. We had a big storm last night and my patemts' property needs major cleaning up.

Qotd: I dont really follow that closely, but I am impressed with anybody who tries to run 100 miles and uber impressed with anyone who accomplishes it no matter what place they come in. There are Nitpickers and Negative Nancies everywhere. And they tend to be louder than everyone else.

I was going to add a similar comment. Anonymity is a cowards best friend. You see it in all forms of social media and it was always a problem with us at the "other forum". The hit and run, bullshit commentary doesn't really work here because we all pretty much know each other.

                              Hey All

It's been a while since I've been around. I'm slowly making my way back into running. I've been battling with some intense reoccurring hip pain and learning how to live a physical life and not hurt all the time. Also the "new" job at the fire department has been keeping me insanely busy. Quotations around "new" because I just got off probation. Which means my schedule just opened wide up!

I signed with a local team for the Klondike Road Relay  in September which is a relay road(i know..) race from Skagway AK follows the Gold Rush Trail(road) and ends in Whitehorse Canada. That's all assuming my passport gets here in time.

                              But- I'm hopefully back!

Did 18+ miles this morning. Couldn't get out of bed when I should have so I had to run in the heat. I finished before it got too bad but the heat index was most likely approaching 92. Certainly not as bad as 105 but bad enough. I stopped by a creek and dumped several baggies of water over my head.

Snowdenrun -- I figured that a bear ate you .

QOTD: I didn't follow WSER and I don't typically follow the ultra news in general so I didn't hear anything about this. But it seems this is getting more common these days. It's almost impossible to have any type of in depth conversation any more whether on the internet or otherwise because someone has to start making snarky comments.
