Faster Than Your Couch!

    Good Morning,

had an MRI of my shoulder taken this morning. I was happy to get the first available appointment at 6:30 a.m. - no wait, no hassle, done by 7, and ready for breakfast.

Now looking to get in some miles. It might rain (showers), or not.

Here's what caused me to stop and start the daily:

It's our adopted stray cat, dozing with her favorite superheroes (our youngest DS's buddies, a gift from grandma)

QOTD: Any funny pictures, videos, stories to share?

    Run for fun.

Pretty steamy right now, so will postpone my lunch run and maybe go out with Beer Runners tonight.

Marie, good luck with the shoulder. I've been able to hold off on surgery for my right shoulder.  RC is healed but labrum will need to be fixed at some point. If I behave myself, I can stay pain free, so I'm waiting it out.

        QOTD:

We all have shoes like this...

...and We've all had falls like this. (This is how I hurt my shoulder)

        “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

Good afternoon all.. not sure what's on tap today running wise. Likely 7 miles somewhere. On the 7 mile plan again. Last night was 7 on easy trails of Green Lane. Sort of sweltering out there but really a pretty nice summer evening for a run. A bit of trail hijinx with some mountain bikers. A pair of them passed me about 3.5 miles into my run, then with a mile and half to go I saw them again taking a short break. A few minutes later they passed me again in a meadow and said "this is the last time we will be bothering you". So a few hundreds later the trail zips out of the meadow into some twisty rooted single track in the woods. I spied one of the bikers about 50 yards ahead and picked up the pace and reeled him in. I almost made a move to pass him, but felt bad as he seemed both startled and embarrassed to be caught by a runner. Ha.

QOTD: Well, there is the bobblehead figurine I received as a gag gift one time.

7 sloggish miles in the heat and humidity. The first 3 miles were miserable, legs dead, then things turned around, and I was fine. Could have continued on, but had to return to drive DS to his rock camp (He's the lead guitarist in the band).

AT: That's what I must have looked like when I fell full front in the mud at the Hyner View Trail Challenge...

Planning on a ride up Old La Honda Road to Skyline to get a climb in, then stability/core work.

Marie: What happened to the shoulder?

QOTD: Well, keeping with FTYC's theme, I think these images of our rescue puppy are funny:

Watoni: The shoulder started hurting in February, and I think it was after a weekend of skiing with the kids. I helped them a lot, carried/hauled them along, opened and closed the chairlift thingie,...

And there's an old (17-year-old) injury, from when I fell on the elbow on the ice, carrying my DD as an infant on my arm. This almost dislocated the shoulder, and the pain was immediate and excruciating. It hurt for several months, before it got better, then disappeared, and I never had problems with the shoulder again. I swam long distances and at high intensity (various strokes, including butterfly), no pain.

In March, I got a shot in the shoulder, which helped for a while, then the pain came back. That's why I got the MRI, to see what is really going on there. The pain radiates all the way up my neck, and down to the elbow as well. It gets better when I run. ??

I'm really curious what the diagnosis will be.

                    Lovely pictures!

Stray animals often have curious behaviors, which help them survive, but are just strange in a home environment.

Our cat eats everything, goes through the trash, opens cabinets and closets, boxes and bins in search of food, steals from the table as soon as you look the other way, hunts (and eats) spiders, ants, bugs, moths that come into the house,... Makes it tough to maintain a healthy weight (she's small). When I see that she has put on half a pound or so, I call her "Rolli-Pollie", and everyone knows it's time to lock away all food stuff.

                    Run for fun.

                    Watoni

Marie, bummer on the shoulder. Hopefully a little rest/rehab will set it straight. I avoided surgery on my shoulder through PT ....

Our rescue pup is a real sweetheart. She has a bit of separation anxiety but flew with me to San Diego to visit my mom and she was perfect. When I went for a run my mom said she just whined for a few minutes and then laid on my shoes until I came back.

4 miles in the hot hot heat, and then accompanying my daughter(8) to her first 5k this eve, She's done fine running the series of milers this summer (and 2mile this spring) and I have no doubt she'll finish -  at her own pace and blowing raspberries at anyone who cheers her on.

qotd: that'd be her in the middle. she doesn't like compliments ;-)

Did 5mi at 5am this morning.  80 deg and 80% humidity.  It wasn't pretty.

FTYC: Sorry to hear about the shoulder.  After about a year, my shoulder feels better now from the sidewalk faceplant I did last summer.

qotd: Blarg, I like the kid's photos.  Probably not too funny, but here are two running photos of me any my DD taken about 14 years apart.

Sandy, that's wonderful -  very cool especially considering we just got to follow her on what amounted to a daring gambit for the lead of a tough race. It's got to have been so cool to watch her blossom into an endurance athlete!

Just wanted to comment on the pictures of and with the kids.  They are great! I hope to have some of my own soon.  Oldest DS and I are doing a little thingy on Sunday.  I hope to get some get pictures and most of all make some great memories.
