sunny Friday (Read 32 times)

Hoping it is sunny where you are, despite whatever the temps may be.  Last night's run was shorter than planned (a little over 3) but the fastest all year with older DS.  I'm trying to keep up!      I'll head out for the trails at lunch, once it gets above freezing for 5-6 miles.  I'm looking forward to it since I've been seeing too much of the roads and treadmill this week.

qotd:  Ok, let's rant.  What is a holiday pet peeve of yours?  Mine, it's the clothing gifts for my boys that are huge!  not as in 'it will fit next summer...' but as in store it for the next 3 to 5 years and maybe they'll be able to wear it in 2016.  the kicker was the year my 3 foot tall elementary school kid got a sports jersey sized for a HS quarterback.  The joy of pet peeves is that these are only annoyances.... and not something of grave importance.

It is sunny and 17F here. Pretty nice after the last few days.  Got out for 7 road miles this morning. Managed to kick one unleashed dog on the nose that came at me aggressively then said a few choice words to the idiot owner. After that I was on an adrenaline rush and my pace was pretty quick. Also made note of the house that it came from--maybe throw some roofing nails on their driveway in a few days    Just kidding!

QOTD--Nothing comes to mind off the top of my head. I'm sure something will happen to give me angst though.  People.....

weather looks good here at least until early next week (highs in the low to mid 30's) which bodes well for running this weekend

        strength training this evening

qotd: fake trees were always a pet peeve, now that we have one in our apartment, it's less of a pet peeve; biggest one is the over the top advertising and buying gluttony that this season brings

        Occasional Runner

Going to run 15 on Antelope Island this morning. The weather tends to be better out in the middle of the Great Salt Lake.

Our trail running group had our year end party and awards last night, so we're a little sluggish this morning. Our running group is pretty amazing and the party was ridiculous.

If you would like some insight as to why Trail Runner Magazine called us the #1 trail running group in the world, you can listen to this interview. It's kind of long, but it's fun.

QOTD: I can't really think of anything.

The pooch and I had a nice cold icy 5 mile trail run.  I am back home taking care of DW who is post-op for shoulder surgery.

            QOTD: I got nothing...

            Endless trails

I had a great 6 mile run in the cold last night, nice way to end the day

after two job interviews. SRD today.

QOTD: People that throw roofing nails in my driveway after kicking my unleashed dog. Remind

me not to piss you off, NH. My biggest annoyance is the marketing trying to force us to spend, spend.

Try to get out for 5 or so after work.

QOTD I don't like how Christmas has become so materialistic. I think everybody should   just give everybody else $50 cash, skip the presents which nobody really wants cause it's usually junk, or clothing that dosnt fit.

A few years ago after seeing how many toys that my son has, I talked to him and we decided that I will give him $50 for Christmas, and he can buy toys for the toys or tots program to donate, I still buy him some small presents but want him to understand the reason for the season!

Eat to run, Run to eat

I'm a pussy and stayed in my warm bed this morning.

QOTD:  End of the year budget crunches trying to use up what was allocated for the year, demanding even more time from me when I should be shopping like a maniacal spendthrift chargaholic.

                    Good late morning everyone!

Got in a chilly 5 last night + 25 minutes on bike rollers + pushups.  Pretty much the same thing on the plan for this evening.

Qotd: I don't like that I get grief when I buy things for myself this time of year.  I don't buy a lot for myself ever, but if I need something I don't like the expectation that I should wait for Christmas and hope someone buys me the right thing.  After re-reading that sounds kinda selfish, so pls subtract about 30% of the selfishness before judging (such a judgemental group)

Got in a nice slow 4 miles in a slow snow shower and light skiff of snow. It's good to be back home on the trails.

QOTD: I have a pole for airing of grievances! Then there will be feats of strength.

Work, work, work... Christmas parade in town tonight... SRD, anyway.

QOTD: My wife wanting to go look at some tacky lighting displays in neighborhoods. I remember one year we must have driven 200 miles that night looking at freakin' lights. I put my foot down, and I didn't go again... until the Christmas.

I've had a stomach virus for a week, and reaching 160 bpm walking up the hill to our place convinced me to URD today.

QOTD: The commercialism and stress really rubs me the wrong way, but I'm learning to work around it. The only stuff I buy is in local artisan stores or on-line. We make all candy and most decorations from scratch. That puts the emphasis on the process of creation, not on consumption.

That said, I've consumed WAY too much christmas chocolate caramel lately.

                            2/3rds training

Melting temps and slushy snow in the woods forced me to the roads for todays 15 mile long run for the week.  First time I've run that long on the road (ever) and while the pavement pounding got annoying by the end, I just cranked up the Ipod and cruised along in the sun.

Signed up last night for my first race in 2014 so far; the Dirty German 50k in Philly.  I somehow convinced my sister to do it with me so it should be a good fun family race with the parents spectating.  Plus I get high altitude advantage on a relatively mild course.

Super easy course, especially for somebody coming from the mountains. It's a dirty inner city park with a lot of trash and homeless people, but it'll probably be good for a PR.
