Late 2013 and 2014 Running Goals -- Help (Read 43 times)

Watoni

Ok, so I am getting way ahead of myself here, but want to tap the knowledge of the folks here, assuming my feet and the rest of me recover fully from my first 100 and 10 days on the bike in Pyrenees.

I am hoping to have some good fitness from these and am looking for a few races DISCLAIMER (My idea terrain is a mountainous single loop, point-to-point or out and back course at less than 10,000 feet Wink):

    1. A 50-miler in November December (hilly?). North Face SF is sold out, and I would prefer something more low-key

    2. A 100k or 100-miler in the Early Spring: Antelope Island or TransGranCanaria (if I have the funds)

    3. Mountain Hundred in the early/mid summer -- Could be Tahoe Rim Trail or Western States (if I got in) or maybe even Lavaredo Ultra Trail if I do not do TransGranCanaria Wink

    4. Fall 100: Pine to Palm 100? Run Rabbit Run if I can acclimate?

I'm going to give a limited response for now.

Antelope Island is a race that you would do very well at. It's northern Utah, so theres some altitude, but nothing that would slow you down.

I'm thinking seriously about Pine to Palm as well. I talked to Hal about it and I want to do it someday, but I was hoping to learn about the race before I jumped into it. It's still pretty new and I prefer to run seasoned races. But I also trust Hal to put on a good race. I'm 90% in for 2014.

I'll give some thought on your other dates. There's so much out there.

I've been toying with the idea of doing the Gold Rush 100k on 5/11. It is point-to-point on 90% single trail. Very flat with a net 800ft descent, and 2 hours from home. It is just a little bit too long for me, and may not be hard enough for you. It does look real fun though.

Does look fun. May is likely not to work based on my schedule, but we'll see

            Thank you!

Antelope Island is 2x the 50 mile loop it seems (and even that has some overlap), but it seems like a great race.

I am excited about Pine to Palm. It is a newish race, but the course looks great and I have heard positive things about it.

            2/3rds training

If you're looking for some warm races in late fall/winter/early spring, Aravaipa Running puts on a great (from what I've heard) winter series down here in sunny Arizona.  Multiple distance options usually mean it's going to be a loop of some sort though.

Fall 100s don't get any better than this if you're willing to travel.  Point to point, less than 10,000 feet and I'll argue that it'll feel mountainous.  Wink  And it's a Hardrock qualifier if you're into that.

                Running is dumb.
