Occasional Runner

Haven't posted in a while.  Too busy not running.  Today marks day 100.

QOTD: I like to look at maps.  That doesn't stop me from getting lost.  Smile

      What's the current prognosis?

You people run?  Oh shit, I'm in the wrong place...  Anyone want to take over mod duties?

Not really anything new going on.  Still going to PT, still resting.  Thinking about starting some yogging to see if increased blood flow and yada yada works some sort of magic because clearly resting isn't doing much anymore.

        Running is dumb.

I was THIS close to running at 5 AM this morning. But alas, sleep won out again. I am really not a morning person........

However, I will be running 6 miles at 5 PM today. I have so much energy right when I'm done with work, before getting on the bus home. I've had some of my best runs straight from my office. I can't seem to run away fast enough from work Wink

QOTD: I am OBSESSED with maps. Looking back, I should have gone to school for Geography or GIS and I would probably be much happier with my career right now. I love maps when related to running, or not. Can't get enough.

I didn't realize so many others were obsessed with maps.  I too am.  My kids and DW will often ask what I am doing.  I will just respond "Just looking at a map" when really I am fully invested as if I were reading a great novel.  I love the topo maps and will go looking for new trails and climbs etc.  Fun stuff.

trailsncocktails - I used to be a night runner.  It worked well for me.  But things changed in teh family and schedule so I switched in 2012 to primarily running in the morning (early).  And although I still don't consider myself a morning person, it is much easier than it used to be.  Having said that, it takes a while to get in the habit.  That first early morning run for you will be just plain weird.

mandy - here's to hoping you can run again soon.

Finally got out for some trail running. First time on a trail all year. While there was a lot of state forest road, much of it was ice covered so I had to switch between the ditch and the bank. Running two miles up an average 7% or better grade on ice and snow can get interesting. Wanted to get in about 11 miles but only did 9, still it was a good run.

QOTD: I love maps. I wish I had more time to play with them and learn more about reading some of the more detailed ones. I could easily waste hours just looking at maps. Therefore, I spend far too much time studing maps of my races.

Thanks for the tip, Boyjame. I know it's possible for me to run early (I've done it before and will do it again) but when given the choice, I always pick evening. When I know I have no choice but the morning, somehow it feels a little easier/ out of my control to wake up early, if that makes sense? Additionally, if I made a habit out of it, my hair would never get done for work...sounds shallow because I usually don't care about how it looks, but I have crazy thick hair that takes up to an hour to get in order for a "business" setting. Roll eyes

On maps -- When I was about 10 years old, I went on a car trip from NY to FL with my family. I was entertained by a Rand McNally road atlas for the ENTIRE 20 hour trip and even predicted our finish time down to within 10 minutes. Still the same today.

Yeah,  not many regrets here but sometimes think I should have been a land surveyor or cartographer. Of course if it was my actual job it might not have the same intrigue.

When I was a teenager I was in the local U.S geological survey office buying topos for some areas I hunted and wanted to hunt. There was a sign above the counter that read "Murphy's law-any area of geographical interest will be at the junction of 4 maps". I remember thinking as I left...who's Murphy?

I've been MIA with work. Got in 5.25 miles of cycling today plus 30 minutes of yoga.

QOTD: I try not to worry about it. I just hope and pray and grit my teeth when I get there.
