    Tim

24 miles on snow roads and trails.  Saw more hikers today than usual on the AT.  One group was out for 3 nights which is pretty hardcore with the temps and wind we've had.  Hard run because, even with screw shoes, my feet were slipping back just a bit with most push-off's.  Really takes it our of you after a while, but made the downhills fun.

      Lace - 135 miles, right?

hog -awesome first race, way to go.

warden - I want to come out and run with you in the winter!

NH - WTF - that's a fast road 5k. Can't imagine doing that in snow with snow shoes.

sugnim - Do you play the French Horn?  DW has played clarinet and flute for over 40 years and now wants to find a used French Horn.

QOTD:  Not really, besides my online porn addiction.

      “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

      some call me Tim

Ugh.. failure. I got back out yesterday for 4 miles on snowshoes to prepare a track for myself today... just needed one last long effort before the 50 in two weeks. But the base I made is still far from stable and I eked out 5 miles this early am at 17mpm before slinking off to lick my wounds. Can't win em all I guess.

        AT, I'm jealous.

hog- excellent, way to kick it off!

qotd: I sold a guitar pedal I didn't need a few months back and bought an open back banjo with the money and whadda you know- it kind of feels like the instrument I was always meant to play. All of the others are getting neglected with the Dirty 30 in the house

13 miles today with Earl and the running buddy. It was uneventful.

Yes I do. That sounds like a difficult switch for your wife, but I heartily approve!

might try microspikes, I have screws in one pair of my shoes and there certain conditions that are beyond them- that's where the microspikes come in, I run w/ them even on solid, sustained ice

                Sandy-2

                  Highs and lows today.

Ran a 30k in Austin with my DD today.  It was a distance PR for her, before today her longest run was a few HMs.  She really rocked it, we passed the HM point under her HM PR time and she powered on from there.

When we finished we called home to find out our dog had had a seizure and my DW was going to take her to the vet ER.  She had a few more seizures after that and my DW knew she was fighting and not well.  My DW said that she never really recovered all the way back from the first one.  They kept her comfortable until my DD and I got there (a 3 hour drive).  When we got there she was laying there under a blanket, but she lifted her head and put her ears back the way she always does when she's happy, she knew we were there.  A little while later while we were all there cooing and comforting her, we put her softly to sleep.

                  tbd.

Sandy,   Congrats for DD but my sympathies for you guys and your loss. Always tough, real tough.

So sorry, Sandy. It is so hard to lose family. We have many happy years and yearn for more. I'm glad you, DW and DD could be there.

Trying this again from a real computer ....

I skied in the morning (without the bride -- she had to get some work done), then I did a run from the base of one gondola, crossing under the next and scrambling a bit to mid-mountain, and back down a ski run. Snow has given way in places to mud/ice, so I should get the spikes back out.

Saturday I had a great series of running, hiking and scrambling exploring the trails (official and not) around Northstar. One turn got me from mud into deep snow (and back again) so it was hiking for a while, then a good run the last few miles back -- 8 miles in all.

QOTD: No new obsessions -- just the bride, as always

traditionally it is, but it's 175 miles this year because they had to change the location of the finish line. That added a lot of gain, too. It's going to be somewhere around 50,000 feet of climbing.
