More astronomical things to look upward for... (Read 28 times)

Uh oh... now what?

There are fewer than sixty days until vernal equinox (09:57 a.m. PDT, 20 March 2014).

Betelgeuse, Sirius, and Procyon form what is known as the Winter Triangle.

Late tonight they will frame Monoceros, the Unicorn.

      Thanks, JohnM!

I love stargazing during my night runs.

I got lucky and got to see the Aurora a couple of weeks ago.  During the polar vortex, so it was..... kinda brutal outside.....  but run run run.

That will be great! My 10-year old loves stargazing, and geeked out when we on Mauna Kea (http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/info/vis/)

If the Northern Lights are out, we are socked in -- almost a rule out here.

In North Dakota, about this time of year, about 10:30 at night and the phone rings.  Bleah, some maintenance problem at -30º... nope, just a short message, "Northern lights... "  We grabbed down booties, gloves, and jackets and soon there were five of us on the outside stair landing doing the ooh and ahh -- the Aurora can hypnotize.  Stay safe out there in the cold, our winter is mild.
