Queen of Nothing

Sue

Its a rest day.  I did 30 girl push ups last night.  Approve I know it's not much but at leasting I am starting to incoporate ST for my upper body.

QOTD:  Just me.  Once in Joshua Tree we got lost, no flashlights but I did have a map and a lighter.  Thought I had point pointed where we were and where we needed to go just before setting the map on fire with the lighter.  As for runs often run out of water but can always crawl home.

LB2:  They were smoking pot not hiking.  Wink

ValerieNV:  We plan on finishing all the legs of Rim Trail this summer.  Two down so far.

XtremeTaper:  I often stop to stare at maps, just because I like seeing where I think I am or what other possibilities are out there that the map doesn't show.

I'm on Day number 6 of unscheduled rest due to the Flu.  Wednesday night I started feeling poorly, tired, achey, etc...Missed 3 days of work with Fever and Chills.  I've given up on the chance of doing my 50k Saturday.  Still have a cough, and I'm hoping to avert a severe respiratory illness.

Wallowing deep in pity at the moment.  Only bright spot was receiving a package from Sportkilt.com this morning.  (??????)

      QOTD;

running no.  Fall hunting yes.  We rode up on a hunter in the dark on horseback and scared the hell out of him as he was trying to put fresh batteries in his flashlight.

Grrrr...Monday is usually our yoga class, but after learning that the mister and me are now on the "wait list" I suspect we'll be heading out for more Monday night evening runs. I'm also sick of this blustery wind around here and looking forward to spring (I did some indoor seed planting last night--c'mon warm temps!)

QOTD: Nope. I have come across unexpected (but well prepared) animals while out on the trails--was completely surprised by a pair of goats once. Not quite sure where they came from, but they looked healthy and were just prancing along.

I think brain surgery stimulated my running nerve and made me into a trail runner. I'm grateful for both.

          Afternoon trail folks,

Kinda busy morning but finally got freed up early afternoon so I was able to do a 7 miler on the roads at a modest(slow) pace. Nice day, I guess the calm before the storm. Love watching and looking at different weather shows and sites. We are supposed to get anywhere from 4 -13 inches. Jeesh, they throw enough guesses out there that someone is bound to be right.

So I entered a mtn. bike, trail run triathlon for late June up near my cabin with my daughter. I think the toddler has aspirations to beat the old man. LOL! Smile  I don't think I can keep up with her anymore road biking but this kind of an event is right in my wheelhouse. Should be fun.

QOTD-- See so many backpacking, running, hunting, etc. that I'm kind of numb to it. I help if they look distressed or give some advice if they are open to receive it but otherwise I don't pay too much mind to it and just keep moving along. They are easy to spot, usually starting with their footwear. Oh well, 300 million people out there, they can't all be competent.

          Just here for the food

1:30 of road running tonight- 8.9 miles. I flipped my SRD due to tomorrow's forecast of snow/sleet/rain and interminable meetings tomorrow afternoon.

QOTD: I used to guide climbing/ backpacking/ whitewater trips and was amazed at some of the things I would see. It's cliche but true, National Parks bring out the worst of the "daytrippers." It's really a shame, too, because those places have so much to offer, especially for those who are pinched for time and are trying to get the most out of their trips. The problem, as I see it, is that those beautiful places are treated like museums or amusement parks and not living systems that don't give a rat's behind about your well being.

On the flip side, though, I'll agree with the poster above about the over-prepared hiker. We do love our gear now, don't we. (I say this as a card-carrying member of the club)

            Uh oh... now what?

Mow the lawn?  The neighbor mowed theirs.  Tell him to come over an mow ours.  And then off for some incredibly slow cloud rearranging, dlb herding, and a sprint or two (it's a judgement sport) under a sunny sky and a rare windless day.

QOTD:  I have given water bottles, gloves, a jacket once (was close to the trailhead), a light or two, directions, and even turned back to escort lost souls--strange that they would trust me.  The fun part during the summer is going home after I close the park.  City folk don't understand dark.  They think there will be residual light from somewhere.  One the way home I will find a person, or a group of people, standing alongside a trail.  I almost always consider just dashing (pedaling) on by.  It isn't weekly, maybe once every three weeks.  Fun seeing someone trying to use the light of their cell phone to see down the trail.

It's fun to be on a loop course and see someone with numbers coming at you.  You both pause, hoping the other person is wrong.

I can't believe I have a snot faced sneezing cold AGAIN.  No running for me AGAIN and I'm not making it to the gym again either.  This is just a doozie.

qotd:  I usually run on remote trails where people are very prepared.  I think the mountain lion and rattler signs keep the less trained at bay. There are also a ton of mountain bikers so I know I'm good for a quick response if something happens (eg- they can FLY down the mountain for help).

Rocky- That is the ultimate SUCK.  I had that in January- stomach flu last week and now a snot faced sneezing cold. I think what you have is the california flu- it is an epidemic as our flu shot didn't cover that strain. Sorry you have to miss your 50K.

PS- Why aren't we doing personals anymore? I missed the memo.

I've been posting from my phone more recently, which is why I haven't included them.
