Faster Than Your Couch!

    Good Morning,

Bouncing back after having been MIA lately. On Friday, I had to pick up my DS from his school just as I was heading out for my run, he had a fever. Poor guy, every time he fights a bug, he flares up like a torch! Tucked him in and spent the rest of the day catering to his needs.

On Saturday, I discovered I had a flat tire after DH had had the tires changed at the shop the day before, so I spent 4 hours at the repair shop to get it fixed. 4 hours to find out why one tire went flat after a change, and to check the other 3 tires - I don't think I'll go to that place ever again. How long does it take the Formula-1 guys to change the tires? 5 seconds? There you go.

As a result of this delay, DD almost missed the birthday party of a friend, and I missed my run. Angry  I'll call it tapering for today's 11-mile race (plus a few extra miles running back with my running buddy), but I'm not too happy about it.

Getting ready for the race, it is very windy, so I don't expect a PR today, but I'll give my best.

    QOTD: pass.

    Run for fun.

    Occasional Runner

I'm going to rest today. My legs are little fried from my 50 miler yesterday. It's amazing how the flat courses hurt so much.

Jo and I fly out around lunch time and I'm excited to be going home for a few days before flying to Philly later in the week. We're headed to Moab for a trail race as soon as I get back on Friday. Running Moab is hard to beat.

Couch- Good luck today and have fun!

The pooch and I took it easy with a shorter (5 mile) trail run.

          Good morning all.

FTYC- have a good race. Hate that darn wind. Can't wait until warm summer morning runs!

Lace- can't wiat for the report. Also, I feel your pain. I've been doing a lot of running on 'rail trails' to get ready for this flat and boring 100 in a few weeks. The same motion over and over...with no change in elevation is a killer.

          TT- good run this morning

I just finished up my B2B. I had drill for the National Guard this weekend so I wasn't able to get as many miles as I wanted but I'll call it a success anyway. Did 31 yesterday and 10 today.

Heres to a great week...and hopefully some warmer weather.

Morning!  Got in 10 yesterday with DS-- half road, half trails.   Beautiful day, but legs felt sluggish.  Will get out for a quick 4 or 5 later this afternoon.  Congrats and good luck to the racers this weekend!

              Morning folks!

SRD for me. lots of loafing around the house planned for today.

              NorthernHarrier

Heading out shortly for 8-10 miles with some mile intervals in there. Looks to be a nice day here. We have a lunch/dinner thing happening at the in-laws but I'm going to drive separate so I can peel out of there and get some biking in. I don't do well with a lot of people crammed into a house with golf on TV and too much noise. I'm thinking you guys understand.

                Tmotmo--that's some good miles!

runtrail--talking about the Kekekebic trail a while back got me thinking(scary) so since I'd be heading up thru International Falls in May anyway on my spring canoe trip I have decided to swing over to Ely for a couple days. My next epic run will be taking in part of the Kekekebic trail and looping with the Snowbank lake and Old Pines trails  for an almost perfect marathon distance of 26.1 miles of rock, bog, old growth pines, and big lake vistas. I'll try to not get lost and have a book written about me. Smile

                Sandy-2

I'm also taking a SRD after my 50 yesterday.  Unfortunatly I'll be on a flight to London later this evening.  At least I get to get some cooler weather for recovery runs while over there.

Sunny, 60 degrees and 5.5 on the trails.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

I haven't posted in a while; the semester is about to end and all of my professors decided to give huge take home tests at the same time. I swear they must plan these things lol.

Anyways, I had an awesome 17 mile long run that ended up being 21 miles due to a little bonus mileage looking for the group I was planning on meeting up with part way through.

Coolest part of the run: butterfly escorts!

                      Pinhoti 100: Finished :D

                      running under the BigSky

had a good run this afternoon, a nice 13 mile loop- temps in the upper 50's- no mud/snow/ice, can't ask for much more than that Big grin  Looks like we have a front moving in tonight and they are expecting snow and highs into the mid-30's for a couple of day- oh well we need the moisture

8.3 miles for the dog and I this morning on the foothills trails. Took it nice and easy trying to give my calf a break. Not sure if it is just really tight or something else, but seems to be slowing me down lately. Might skip tomorrows run and jump on the bike for a bit of cross training.

QOTD: Doesn't look like there is one yet... So, Has anybody used those calf compression sleeves or socks? I have been searching for solutions to my calf tightness/pain and it seems like a lot of people seem to think they work. Almost sounds too good to be true though reading the reviews...

Low o2- I use Zensah calf sleeves. I think they have worked pretty well for recovery, but I think the strength training I've been incorporating has been more beneficial.

I put them on any time I'm out for more than 20 miles.  I say give them a shot. They're not terribly expensive (i think mine were around $35 for the pair).

I like using them after sports but don't use them during, which is all wrong because you're supposed to use them during exercise, not just after. I believe the research is actually mixed on the topic but generally agree that "it won't hurt anything" to use them.

Can I go on a tangent here a sec? One thing I don't like about "dailies" is how interesting topics such as this one get buried in a mish-mash of posts reporting what everyone did on a given day.  By tomorrow this topic of compression will simply disappear and no one will be able to refer to it or add to it. Dailies lead to a lack of sustained discussion and we end up with basically one thread per day.

                              Down with dailies!

I'm Holden McGruyen. Would you like to join me?

                              running under the BigSky

I'll wear them at night after long runs, they seem to help.  I've worn them running and don't seem to notice much of a difference???

What I've found most beneficial for tight calves (and achilles soreness- for me they often go hand in hand) is rolling.  I bought a very firm roller and try to roll my calves before/after running- this has helped me a bunch.  It's not an overly pleasant experience (but neither are the massages you get from a PT!), but myofascial release works.
