Is anyone in the Boston area?? I'm new to trail running, and am a bit nervous about heading out to Blue Hills or the Fells without a friend... most of my friends haven't been out there either or aren't inclined toward dirt.

Hi Imogene I meet with friends and fellow trail runners (male and female) of varied ablilty on most weekends. We usually run at Breakheart Reservation in Saugus or Lynn Woods, in Lynn of course. Most of the runs are around 8 miles but some people go longer or shorter. Let me know if you would like to join us some time. I would like to run the Fells with you some time if you like. I've never run there before but I do have a trail map if that helps. If you get up north a piece, there's plenty of trail runners in southern maine. Can't help you near Boston though.

I'm not from the Boston area but I have run on a trail in the Boston area Smile I've been on a team at the NE Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park. If you want to drive further north than southern Maine there are all kinds of trails here in VT. If you want to stay in Mass then check out the Western Mass Athletic Club www.runwmac.com they have an excellent trail race series. I realize this isn't the answer you were looking for but it maybe helpful to you in the future. Kelly

imogene Have you run at the Fells yet? I went there a few times this summer. Very nice place. The Skyline trail is about 8 miles with a lot of hills and great views (of Boston too). The Reservior trail is about 5.5 miles and the terrain is not as hard as Skyline. Check it out when you get a chance. I think you will like running there. Dan

The Fells? Or Blue Hills? I've done some running in the fells, but I'm wary of going there by myself because the trails are not very well marked, it seems. But I don't think the times I've been we've gone in at a very official entrance so maybe if you start on a marked trail you can keep it. I've hiked Blue Hills I"ve hiked, so I'm familiar with the Skyline and Reservoir trails. My running partner and I are thinking that we might also go back to the park where the race was and run there sometime. Yay trails.

I'm takling about the Fells. I forgot Blue Hills has a Skyline Trail too. I thought the Fells trails were well marked. I did miss a few turns but I wasn't paying close attention to the trail markers. I know you can access the the Fells from several trail heads but i usually start at the Sheepfold parking lot. I don't have any plans to run there any time soon but if i am planning a weekend run there I could post a notice here if you would be interested in going back. Dan
