Wow your long runs are incredible, I have stayed at the 20 mile mark for my long runs but for you to do them on a Wednesday night and still work the next day is incredible....ooh I forgot you work in IT ........oops unthought through argument, so do I

You certainly have ramped up the mileage, mine is moving that way as we move into July and August.

BTW we have a long way to go to catch up Tom (Purdey) though I think he runs in his sleep

I'm about maxed out in my schedule at the moment. In addition to that mileage I swim two mornings a week and those sessions are either long or fast. I think they help a hell of a lot, and they give my legs a rest.

The goal, which I'm just approaching, is to run a 5-6 hour run on a Wednesday night.

I feel amazing the day after those long runs that go on into the night. I don't get much sleep but just feel great. I usually get home after 1am.

Purdey is a freak. Smile And a fast one at that.

Wow, no my late evenings are for working and/or drinking

During these Wednesday runs, what are you taking as a supplement, Gels and/or fruit bars or something else? From memory you are quite regimental in your carb supplement taking (a good thing) are you still doing this as part of the training runs.

Those Wednesday night runs are done in glycogen deficit. Generally I'll have 1 or 2 carb bars (Torq) and 1 or 2 gels (Carb-Boom) but that's about it. I have loads of Nuun though. I have a 3 litres Camelbak now and I'll have all of that on the way round. I only need 500ml an hour during nighttime runs, I don't sweat as much as in the day.

A good, but tough, tactic Flynn.

I aim to achieve the same thing by doing my longer runs (which are nothing like as long as yours) early in the morning before I have eaten anything.  I avoid taking gels or anything like that unless I'm going 20 mi +.  Aim is the same - teach the body to release calories from fat storage rather than easily available glycogen.  Not sure if it's working yet - and I probably need to some longer runs!

Something is definitely happening with my body composition and I reckon it's down to the very long training runs. I weigh a couple of pounds less but I look alot lighter than I used to. Bodyfat has fallen off and I've incorporate some weights into my training which together with a core stability program I'm finding that I've put on some muscle. Basically I'm getting leaner. This is just the start as well. That's after 1 month of training. I've got three months solid training coming up and I'm going to push the bodyfat percentage very low.

Just be very careful of your body fat content.....you have a lean body structure and by removing too much fat can be detremental to your health.

Quite a good indicator is Body Fat Calculator

I am bordering 13 % which puts me on the Athletic side

This one brings age into the calculation (I used the tape measure method as it was quicker and easier) Another calculator

Sorry to sound like an old fuss pot

According to that first site it's 10%. But that's not very scientific.

Phewww, no pies for you then

It is a bit like that nonsense with BMI as says I am over weight and as you mention originally that you lose 2 Ibs but look lighter due to toning and the fact we will have a higher muscle density.

Crikey chaps!!  My digital scales purport to measure body fat - currently at 16% for me!!!

I'm a bloater!!

I am 5'7'' tall and weigh 72kg at the moment (158 pounds or 11 st 4 oz).  Does the website agree that I'm at about 16% - if so.... I need to do something about it.

My waist is now down to 30'' - I can't have much more to lose can I?!

(Kinda hoping my scales are wrong)

On the plus side... my 2009 mileage is now up to over 1720.  The big 2k is not far off!

Nothing to say at the moment.
