100 km races and 2010 (Read 509 times)

I can't seem to find any of these around anywhere in Britain, I know it is an arbitrary distance but it was a nice round figure to it.

Next thing is what are your goals for 2010? I plan to go up to 100 miles so will have start a good training plan as I would like to do only Ultras ranging from 40 miles and up. Not sure if I want to do multi-stage events

    "Race Across The Sky"

There are a couple of 100kms usually.  Can't think which ones yet - mostly championship races I think.

100 miles Jerry?  No need to drastically change the training programme - the shorter ultras will take care of the long runs for you.  Might want to think about upping it to 5/6 days a week though.

My goals for 2010:  (depend a lot on outcome of 24hr race in Oct)

      1.  World 24hr Champs, Brive-la-Gaillarde, May 2010.  (If I dont' run 145 miles + in Oct then this one gets binned)

      2.  Al Andalus Trail Ultra, Spain.  5 day stage race.

      3.  Sub 2:45 marathon.

      That's it.

What was the secret, they wanted to know; in a thousand different ways they wanted to know The Secret. And not one of them was prepared, truly prepared to believe that it had not so much to do with chemicals and zippy mental tricks as with that most unprofound and sometimes heart-rending process of removing, molecule by molecule, the very tough rubber that comprised the bottoms of his training shoes. The Trial of Miles; Miles of Trials
There don't seem to be many in the UK. In the States is another matter though. Seems that there are quite a few on every weekend. Perhaps we should organise a few ourselves.... Smile

Plan for the rest of 2009 and 2010.

        2009
        Aug - R&R
Sep, Oct & Nov - heavy training, might sneak in the Blackwater Marathon as a training run
Dec - An event of some kind, havn't decided yet. Doyen of the Downs, Tour de Trigs, don't know, still searching

        2010
No plans as yet. Have an entry in for London and with definitely be running whatever race is organised at Halstead. Other than that I'm planning for 4 ultras. Maximum distance will be something around 75 miles.

Key thing for me is to plan out a training program that increases weekly mileage to 60+ miles, improves average speed and includes plenty of difficult navigation and map-reading.

Being toying with this little number

GB Ultra Country to Capital 45

It is a canal run so will be a new one on me but I would like to get the experience, trouble is the finish is closer to home than the start!

MTA: Now confirmed (via Runners World) I am running this on 16th January 2010.

          Bonus

            Jerry,

            Here's one at least...

Wessex Ridgeway 100K Relay in May ( they accept solo runners )

Plans for 2010? Blimey, have to come back to you on that one.

Isn't the Trailwalker over the South Downs a 100k? Would be next year now, but possibly one for the diary.

              2011 Goals - Run 2 x 100+ mile races (16+17/04/11 London Mara x 4 - 22hrs8mins)

              5K: Sub 19 (24/07/11 - Bushy Park 18:55)

              10K: Sub 41 (19/03/11 40:50 - 2nd 10k of below race)

Half Mara: Sub 1:32 (19/03/11 Dorney Lake 1:26.50)

Mara: Sub 3:15 (on a road course)

Ooohh two good options, the Trailwalker wasn't even on my radar and would be a great training run for the South Downs Way 100 mile run in September

                "Race Across The Sky"

Trailwalker can't be done as an individual - I pleaded with them to no avail.

                  Need a team of 4.

                    "Race Across The Sky"

                      It's a piece of piss really.  100k?

Admittedly there are a few ups and downs.

Last year I ran a few of the legs whilst supporting my brother Nick.  Lovely scenery.

If we entered a team we should be looking at placing quite high up.....  just sayin'

Are we getting a Team together? All Male or a Mixed Team, i think the outright record is 10hrs 26mins or something by a Gurkha Team (i think they have the top 3 or 4 fastest times). Would be very interested in this if we are planning that far ahead already.

OK, that is 3 runners, I will be able to find a fourth (Celtic Tiger) but if we get more we can have an alpha and omega team

                            Correct.  10 min/miles exactly.  V tough.

Excellent, if we are all serious about this it will give us a nice mid-year focus

Yep, definitley like to have a crack at this. If we wanted a mixed team, and I don't know if she would be interested, but my work colleague is an ex international tri-athlete (upto Ironman Distance) and now does adventure racing (won the event her team did last week) so must be fairly good! Just might give us another option should we look to go after a mixed team top 3 finish.
