GB Ultra Country to Capital 45 (Read 653 times)

Jerry: Am I right in thinking that you're signed up for this event?

How are you organising the logistics? i.e. getting to the start and getting home again?

I need to find an event in December or January and the two I had in mind for December are now off the radar due to my wife organising a night out for herself on the 5th December (which means Doyen of the Downs and Tour de Trigs are both out)

This race, the GB Ultra Country to Capital 45, looks like it may well fit the bill.

    Also, what's this Trailwalker thing?

I am unsure what my plans are for this one as I was thinking I could  travel up on the morning which will be a 90 minute drive from Junction 4 of the M25 however as the race finishes near as damn it to Paddingon Tube I could soon get home by public transport.....question is if I plan to do it that way how the hell do I  get to Wendover?

The logistics are my concern with signing up for this race.

I'll email Steve now and see if he can shed any light on this

I have emailed Steve (the organiser) with that very question

Best thing would be for the organisers to put on a coach from the finish to the start. That way we could leave cars at the finish and sleep all the way to the start line.

               Here is the response

The race starts pretty much at Wendover train station (by design) and there is a service back to Wendover the following I sent out with the race info earlier in the year

              Useful links:-

Ø       The site address for Wendover station is http://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/station/wendover/

Ø       The site address for the timetable pdf is  http://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/uploads/publications/825.pdf and the pages you need are 80 and 81 if you are intending to use the train back to Wendover

              Hopefully it is still current.

Starting in the station car park was a bit drafty so I plan to try and get into the pub by the station as our HQ which should also give you somewhere to park.

I think I will make alternative arrangements and just travel back home from London

So the idea is to drive to Wendover, run 45 miles, and then get a train back to Wendover to collect the car and drive home. That seems like the wrong way round for me.

The race ends at Little Venice, which is pretty much Camden area right? Well, my company has an office in Islington which is just up the road where I can park for free.

It would make more sense to drive to Islington the day before, train to Wendover and sleep in a B&B, then run to London. Short cab ride back to the office in Islington where I could get a shower and then drive home.

It's still a bit of a faff I have to say though.

                     Agreed...

I have just found this and booked a room, it is about 1/4 mile walk to the Station where the race starts

The King & Queen Public House (food served Tues - Sun)

                      It is a reasonable £30 p/p/n

Breakfast can be served any time we want, so I will take the train up on the Friday, quaff a few ales and go home from London assuming there is a bag drop

Let me try and raise the subject with the wife this weekend about this race and I'll get back to you. I'm not in her good books at the moment. Sad

Sounds like the right plan though mate. B&B the night before sounds like a very sensible plan.

Be quick, I know another member of this forum is going to be booking a room in this B&B this weekend ready for the race
