GB Ultra Country to Capital 45 (Read 617 times)

    David

Like you I have a couple of blisters but I have burst them now and they are hardening up nicely even the ankle has settled down and I went for a good walk up to the shops and back and did the gardening today.

I feel so positive that I have just finished my training plan  for C2C. Similar to L2B but with more onous on the Sunday long run. Mentally we just have to think it as Blackheath to CP5, hilly for the first 20 miles and then a flat track to London.

I promise you I do shut up after the first 10 miles

have now re-found myself as a RunningAhead member.

Jerry and Mr Immune, great to hear of your L2B survival and am in awe! Well done. The GB C2C will be my longest run so far so I am a lil' nervous, but am sooooo excited about it. Plenty of cake on the way...Mrs UltraBobban makes a mean banana and chocolate muffin so I shall be well stocked. Staying at a Prenier Inn about 5 miles from Wendover and as I posted on the RW site, Mrs UB has space for a couple of south of the river types in the car.

I have a couple of DPR (my running club) who are keen to run us in the last 10 miles or so. are they allowed to do this? or do we get disqual for it? Otherwise they shall find a pub and listen to our stories of merriment and joviality.

Am running Clarendon XC mara this w/e and Doyen a few weeks later.

Wey hey, I always feel a bit freer to talk on this site than Runners World.

I am off to Caesar's Camp (50 miles) this weekend and beginning to brick it a little as George has pulled out as a preventative measure so as not to exacerbate a knee problem, I wish I was as sensible as he. I'll report more on the run if and when I do it.....but you get a really cool polo shirt so I have got to do it

I will still nag Lee Chamberlain for the Garmin download of C2C as it will be interesting to see the hill profile in the first 20 miles....I think it is going to be a really great run...all I need to do is get the next few weeks over and then see if Doyen of the Down is on the cards

          Hi Jerry

Sorry to see that you had to pull out of Caesars at 20miles. I thought it was a big ask so soon after L2B to do another big mileage event, you are one crazy mother for giving it a go. The enforced lay off will be a good thing (in my opinion) allow you to recover completely and then kick on again ready for C2C.

I myself have not run at all since L2B, did nothing the week after as my left shin was very sore (inflamed tendon) and my left ankle bit swollen, did the Gym 3 times this week and have enjoyed hammering it for 20mins each visit on the bike (can't seem to get that out of breath even on level 10!!) and doing a few weights. Will venture out next week and build slowly again, and i definitely want to try and meet up for some training runs with you and your gang before C2C. I am also looking to do at leat one duathlon (Merrell Iceman in November) just to break up the training a bit.

Hope the hamstring isn't too painful and you are back out there soon (not too soon though Jerry )

            Hi All

This will be first full week (5 runs) of training since L2B and will be doing a huge 30miles in total. Glad to get back out to be honest, and my old running buddy who has been injured for 6mths (!) joined me on Tuesday's 6miler, good to have someone to run with again, not sure he is up for Ultra Training though. Got a 10k Race in a couple of weeks just to blow the cobwebs out, sub 45 should be do-able (i hope).

Hope everyone is ok, hope to catch up with you soon Jerry / Bobban.

Me too but it appears I have done 124 miles since then with a failed attempt at Caesars which I not worried about at all as it was too much too quickly but have done a couple of long runs with some nice 10 milers in between.

I haven't run with George since L2B and I have found the break in the routine quite unnerving but we are at Beachy Head on Saturday and then hopefully back in to the Sunday morning routine again as we prepare for C2C.

Ooohhh errr a 10 km race, I remember those, I think they call that a sprint in my neck of the woods You'll be fine, with the miles in your legs you'll blat through it.

Sorry, I have been tucked up.

                  So here is the plan

                  29th November 2009 - Gatliff Marathon (50 km)

6th December 2009 - Doyen of the Downs (30 miles) -----subject to confirmation from Mrs Jerry

                  16th January 2010 - Country to Capital

George emailed me tonight and after saying he wasn't going to do DotD has been suckered in so I thought I would try a weekend back to back but it is a tall order but training is going OK at the moment although mileage is less intense.

MTA: It looks like the entries have closed for DotD

Hi Jerry and all C2C Runners

Any ideas if C2C is definitely still on, as i know it has been almost impossible to run this week, thankfully the Gym did open so only 15miles @ the GYM on treadmill . I would assume taking into account weather forecasts for the coming week that things wont thaw out that much before the 16th. Or am i going soft?

What with my leg injury and the weather, the last 3 weeks of training has really gone pear shaped. I think a very steady slog is what i will go for on the 16th rather than having a real go at a time. Need to pack my headtorch me thinks.

Hope everyone else is fit and well, look forward to meeting up on the 16th (as long as it is still happening)

I have been watching the Runner's World Forum with interest and it appears that the run will go on come Hell or High Water so there is no doubt it will still be there.

I have managed 50 miles over 4 runs this week on trail and path away from roads this week and all seems OK, last run on Tuesday to wind down for Saturday, what can best be described as a short sharp taper which I am more than happy with at the moment.

Popped into Waterstones today and had a look at the maps deciding that 3 maps @ £8.99 was a tad too much and delivered no real benefit against the ones they have provided us although we will have to be mindful that the scales are not consistent.

Glad your leg is improving and you have got some taperingf miles in
