I thought i would start a new topic for this event as i know that a certain Mr Jerry has also sent off his entry form and Ultrabobban is fairly convinced to sign up as well.
So this will be my goal event for 2010, which menas that all Trail Mara's and Ultra's (only upto 30ish miles mind you) leading upto this event will be training runs. I know the 28+29th August seems a long way off but i know it will come round pretty quickly.
Jerry, Ultrabobban - I hope to see some comments on here soon, so we can discuss what events to do in prep etc or just have a general chin wag.
2011 Goals - Run 2 x 100+ mile races (16+17/04/11 London Mara x 4 - 22hrs8mins)

Yes, application sent, Mrs J not too happy but secretly pleased I am out of the house doing what I enjoy.
I am training hard at the moment for the Crawley 12 hour which will be a nice mid-range target and then August....wow what a target!
Is your ankle OK?
Jerry A runners blog-updated daily
Hi Jerry
Ankle is about 80 to 90% better, did 2 miles very slowly on Weds (13min mile pace, good practice for August!!!) on the treadmill. Then did 5 miles last night, again on the treadmill as its safer for my ankle than the road at present, but did do 8.15 for mile 4 and 7.10 for mile 5 (last mile wasn't meant to be at full pace) and ankle felt good. It is still a little weak at a point when rolling on to the outer edge of my foot but feels stable on foot plant etc and no pain or swelling following the run. I see from Bobbans blog that he has filled out and posted his application, so looks like we have a team of three for this little jaunt across the countryside.
Good luck for Crawley, i had sort of forgotten you were doing this though have seen you mention 25 x laps!!!! on your blog. Do you change direction at certain times, if you do, do you all have to finish the lap you are on first and then all change. Never thought of doing this type of event, hopefully the tracks green and you can pretend you are offroad . Glad your training is going well, i may venture out for 10 miles on Sunday with my mate (he's doing 22miles) i think this will be the first time in ages his weekend run is longer than mine, but then again he only does Marathons.........
Terrific news, I am really pleased that you are getting back on track. Just to give you a caveat and be mindful, I had an ankle injury I called my "Peak District Ankle". A couple of years ago, whilst training up for my first ultra, I was doing a 20 mile race in the Peak District. At the top of one Edge, I got my foot caught between to rocks and twisted my ankle badly, being the rufty tufty I am, I carried on for another 16 miles, still hopping and squealing. I rested up for a couple of weeks and then went back to running, however over the next year I found that if I caught my ankle at a certain angle the pain was horrific, like needles up the shin. Luckily it is now gone but they injury does remain, just be very careful.
Here endeth the lesson

You change every 3 hrs at Crawley (I think... it might be 4). It is very simple really, a cone is placed at the start/finish line and you run around it, your lap time is recorded, and you set off in the opposite direction. This means that for a couple of minutes you have runners going in both directions - but it works remarkably well.
The track is tartan. So you could pretend you are in Scotland.
The Ridgeway will be a big challenge guys. Respect for considering it. I was entered last year but dropped out as I decided it was too close to my 24hr attempt, I was suffering with my achilles. Basically I didn't think I could recover quickly enough to get in some decent training between the events.
What was the secret, they wanted to know; in a thousand different ways they wanted to know The Secret. And not one of them was prepared, truly prepared to believe that it had not so much to do with chemicals and zippy mental tricks as with that most unprofound and sometimes heart-rending process of removing, molecule by molecule, the very tough rubber that comprised the bottoms of his training shoes. The Trial of Miles; Miles of Trials
Have had confirmation that my entry to this has been accepted (oh s**t!) Why do these things seem like a good idea at the time but suddenly it is only just over 5 months away, and we all know that the time will fly. It is all Jerry's fault, as with most things involving me running stupid distances
Jerry - Good to see your training is going well for Crawley. Did you break through the 60mile barrier for this week?
Oh yes, smashed 60 miles last week a real psychological boost...concentrating on track work as I approack my 12 hour ultra.
Never mind 5 months, I am panicking over my 5 weeks to Crawley.
I have my confirmation also, doesn't feel real at the moment but let me see April come and go and it certainly will.
To tell you the truth it almost feels like sacrilege even mentioning clockwise on a track!
It feels weird for about 30 minutes!
On Sunday I got to the track at about 9.00am and had it all to myself, Dave, the groundsman, was OK with me doing my first 25 clockwise with the caveat that I must revert as soon as another user appeared. Not to worry as most of the tracksters shuffle in at about 10.00 am and spend hours warming up anyway.
My circuits were near spot on but was really amazed that as soon as I swapped back to anti-clockwise my pace went all over the shop and it took 3 laps to get back to the same times as before. A small lesson to be learned but have a feeling it will harder after 6 hours.
Looks like the LDWA do a 40miler called The Ridgeway 40, along, you guessed it, The Ridgeway.
I think it is in early May, could be a perfect training / recce run for the BIG run later on in the year.
Jerry / Bobban - What are your thoughts?
Cider IS carb loading
I've had a look at the site and its on saturday 8th may. http://ridgeway40.org.uk/
The week before I am torn between the 3FM and Neolithic. I did 3FM last year and is a very hill 27 miler, the neolithic I would like to do as its new to me and also on Ridgeway territory.
I like the idea of doing the 40 perhaps at 85 mile pace. perhaps we can have a cider afterwards!
perhaps we have a cider after the BTM and discuss the training. I might get the train down so I can have a bevvie afterwards.
Hi Bobban
The Neolithic is on my possibles list as i have not done it before, so maybe i will see if i can get a day pass for it from Mrs Immune and we can use it as a training run (Very easy pace). I am not sure i will defo be doing Brighton (BTM) as i have not run further than 13.1m in the last 3 weeks, ankle injury, and some faster stuff i was doiing in prep for my Half Mara PB attempt which was successfully completed on Saturday reduced my time from 1.38 to a slightly more respectable 1.35 (i don't like / am not good at running quickly).
If i do the BTM i will have to drive down, not sure about driving to the Ridgeway 40, might be able to let the train take the strain (couple of beers afterwards). WIll let you know about the BTM asap (might be no places left anyway?), and will also raise the subject of the Neolithic with Mrs Immune this evening and report back.
I assume your knee is holding up and you are getting back into the groove, which is great.
