It was a beautiful Christmas day here in Southern WI! Did a 8-mile run as the start of week 2 of Pfitzinger's 18/55 program - training for Boston '08.
There used to be a Wisconsin thread atthe old CR site, it wasn't widely used, but had some good info occasionally. Anyway, I saw the "Groups" area here and decided it was worth a try to create a new thread.
Anyone else going to Boston (The BAA site has 308 entrants from WI, so far)? Any upcoming races: New Year's Day Dash at Fleet Feet in Madison, or the S-No-W Fun run 1/5 in Lake Geneva?
Happy New Year Running to all!

Hi Larry,
I saw your group and decided to join you. I had thought about starting a WI group in the past, but never got around to it, so I'm glad you stepped up to the plate. I know of a couple of other WI runners who use this site, so maybe we'll have some company soon.
I ran Christmas day as well and did five miles in the morning. Personally I hate running in cold weather (even though I've lived in WI my whole life) and stick to the treadmill or go to the Pettit Center in West Allis as often as possible, but it was just too nice so I ventured outside.
During 2007 I had a stress fracture in my foot, so I didn't run too much this year, but hopefully I will make up for it in 2008. I'm planning on running the Trailbreaker half marathon in early April and have signed up for the Green Bay Marathon in May. Not much of a chance for me to join you in Boston anytime soon; I'm shooting for something under four hours in Green Bay.
I'll keep an eye on this group and mention it on other groups as well. Welcome to the RA site, there's a bunch of dedicated runners here and a lot of good advice on the boards.

Hey all,
I'm a new runner, kind of doing the couch to 5k program. With the holidays and all, I've gotten completely off track. I was up to 1.5 miles per run, 2-3 times a week. Then I got a nasty cold and the holidays threw me off track. I'm starting extra slow because I have a history of shin splints.
I'm in Waupun, WI. It's about 1 hour north of Madison. I'm the same way with the cold weather. I picked up a treadmill from a friend for a good price, and it's been treating me well.
I wish my lawn was emo...

good morning fellow Badgers. I'm usually on CR (Active forum) but thought I would say hi. I'm currently running about 35 miles per week. I've been running for about 8 months. My first HM will be Green Bay in May. I will pretty much run in any weather above 10 degrees. I just gotta run.

Good Morning! More snow here today, about an inch on top of some light ice (rain turned to snow), and forecasts for 3-6" more tomorrow. It's been a long, hard wintr already for running. Last Saturday I did my Sunday long run (12 mi.), it worked out well because Sunday was miserable.... Heading out for a 10 miler in a few minutes. Hope everyone gets through the next snowstorm all right.
runjr: I've never done Green Bay, I was signed up for the marathon in 2006, but then got injured, so skipped it. I've heard a lot of good things about it though, and plan to do it sometime, probably not this year - too close to Boston. A lot of people BQ at Green Bay.
I've had a sore ankle lately, so I'm probably not doing the New Year's Day Dash, but if it gets better I might do the S-No-W Fun Run. There aren't too many races around here until March/April...
kessler93 and Awol: Glad to see other Badgers here!!

I got 7.5 in this AM but was surprised by the 1" of snow/ice. It wasn't too awful. Tomorrow may be an cross-train day at the gym as all you know the snow is almost here. Saturday should be a 10 miler.
Larry - this spring will be a HM or two and maybe fall I will consider a full. I'm not overly fast as typical miles around the 9:00 minute pace. How many years of running before you tried a full marathon.
take care all.

Once I started serious running (1999), I ran shorter distance races for three years before my first marathon in Sept. of 2002.

Hi all,
Madison runner here, came over from CR. Mostly I just log miles and read posts, but I saw this group and figured I'd join. Did the Mad City HM last year, planning on doing the full this year and Crazy Legs before that.

More snow....
Personally, I've had enough!
tk421: Hi,I live pretty close, Milton. I've done the Madison (Mad City) full twice and half once, It's a good race. I've done Crazylegs every year since 1999, it's always a good time!
Time to go get the snowblower out.

Well snow is cleared and hopefully going to get a quick 7 miles in today. The route will be not the same as most paths and trails are not cleared. Good luck all getting their running in today.

Will need an official Badger ruling ....
I live in LaCrescent MN .. just across the river from LaCrosse. Work in LaCrosse, my running group is in LaCrosse, and I grew up in the little town of Elroy WI ...
Ran Madison full in 2004 (about drowned in the downpour), Grandma's 2006, GreenBay-Spring07 and Charlotte NC-Fall07.
Whatcha think ... it's 3 miles from my house to Wisconsin ... close enough??

TJN - I think you qualify. Welcome to the group. Let's hope this forum gets a little more activity.
Here is my totals for the week after today should hit 40 miles for the week. Still working on the base for first HM this spring and hopefully a full by fall.

Great!
I'm still recovering from Charlotte (8-Dec). Haven't been getting in alot of miles this month. They ran us through some really nice, very scenic neighborhoods, but the "rolling" hills got me. Got a sore hamstring that just keeps hangin' on.
Hope to do the St.Paul WinterCarnival half at the end of January. Did it last year... It's one of those races that will make your non-running friends genuinely question your sanity. There was a bunch of us
's that did it ...

Hi TJN and welcome aboard. I saw that you ran Madison in '04 and Green Bay in '07. I ran Madison in '05 and have signed up for Green Bay this May. Which race did you like better? I thought Madison was well organized and had a terrific experience, but don't know much about the Green Bay race.

Hi Jim,
I don't feel I can really give Madison a honest comparison as the weather that day was just terrible. It rained ... actually poured from mile 5 to mile 24. Thunder, lightning, cold, muddy, wet shoes, blisters ... because of the downpour not many people were along the route (can't blame them) ... although the people that were out were really fun! I'm sure I didn't experience all the Madison race had to offer. It was my first marathon so I'll always remember Madison. Since then I've talked to others who had better days ... I'm going to have to go back and do Madison again!
With that said ... I really liked Green Bay (it wasn't raining!). The pre-race expo / Pasta dinner were good. The race start and finish is all at Lambeau Field. They won't let you out on the field, but you can get a picture of yourself at the "Promised Land".
The course itself is flat (except for a couple bridges .. no big deal). The first half runs with the 5k / HM (lots of people) through residential / industrial type areas. The 2nd half goes South along the Fox River to Depere, back North on the other side of the river on a nice asphalt Bike Path, and then onto the city streets to Lambeau.
The CellCom sponsorship had a deal where we signed up our cell phone and when I crossed a chip-mat out on the course, it sent a text message to my wife letting her know where I was on the course ... my pace .. and an estimated finish time ... that was cool.
My big memory of Green Bay was the lap inside the stadium. Just as I was running into Lambeau, the first notes of my favorite song started blaring over the PA ... Springsteen's Born to Run ... I had a pretty good race going (for me anyway .. 4:05 PR) and that just finished it off.
We had a good time!
Tim
