The Packers season ending ... more snow ... more cold ... It's getting tough.

Sounds like the weekend is going to warm up!! What's everybody got up to take advantage of the weather?

I'm in my full winter depression mode and am desperate for spring. I spend way too much time on treadmills and running in a circle on an indoor track. I'm planning on running outside on Sunday for sure (probably do some hills), but Saturday is still up in the air.

I'm trying to build up my base miles, but it's been a challenge. I absolutely hate running in cold weather and running in the cold when it's dark outside to me is miserable.

Damn this winter!!!
I have been outside until this week. I have been on the TM all week. I find myself running faster and faster on the treadmill to get done with the miles because of boredom. This week the weather has been brutal as you all know. I will be out there Friday for sure. take care
Hi dee Ho Cheez Heads.

I have been having trouble staying motivated this winter and I see that I'm not the only one. I ran outside today before the cold just to get in some miles, because I hate running on my dreadmill. This winter seem darker and more dreadful than last year. I just need a kick in the butt to get going again. Smile

It has definitely been a tough one. Sounds like if we can hang on until Thurs or so, things should be turning for us.

One of the ladies at work has a countdown going on her board ... If I remember correctly, we've got 50 or so days until Spring!

Maybe we need a Saturday morning cyber long run to get us back in the swing ... we'll meet at the YMCA parking lot at 7:00am ... couple loops around town and on to the coffee shop for a warmup! Big grin

Argh! It is so cold! How do you people live like this?! Shocked

Really. I'm so cold that I don't want to move. At all. Ever. This is only my second Wisconsin winter. I don't remember last winter being this bad. But I do remember it being really, really long. I'm used to March = spring. It was snowing here in April last year. Tongue

This winter seems especially bad. I've been here my entire life so I remember the winters of the 1970's and early 1980's which were brutal, but I must be getting old because this one's getting to me. Its tough to stay motivated because I'm running on treadmills more than I ever had or ever wanted to and running outside when its about 10 degrees just doesn't appeal to me.

Looks like we have new members? This perfect spring weather should have us all out, right?

Been a wonderful few days with the kids playing out side, getting the yard prepped, bike rides...

Great stuff, hope you are all enjoying it.

I complained A LOT about the weather this winter but the past week or so have been great. Its nice to just put on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and go and not have to worry about gloves, hat, etc.

hello. i just wanted to introduce myself. my name is missy and i've been running for about 7 years consistently. i've run 6 marathons (chicago '02,'03,'04,'06; NYC '07; Greenbay '08 ) and a whole lotta other races as well Smile we moved to WI from chicago last year and i've quickly learned what a FIB is Wink anyhow, i look forward to joining in the discussion here.. happy running to all!
Hi Missy, nice to meet you. It's been pretty quiet in here lately, but I check in quite a bit just to see if there is anything new.

Hi Missy,

Welcome to the user group. I also ran Green Bay this year and was wondering how you liked it.

tk, nice tat. i plan on getting one on my ankle when i BQ (i really want to say IF i BQ, but i'm trying to be optimistic and truly believe that in order to do it, i'm going to have to start believing that i CAN and WILL do it. a tangent.. i digress). it will say: IBQD

kessler, the labby in your avatar inspired me to put up my beloved yellow labby as well. her name is mulan Smile aren't they the greatest? i swear i will never own another type of pup. she is, in my mind, a human with a fur coat on Wink

i thought the GB mary was awesome. having previously run both NYC and chicago, i admit i LOVE the hype that comes with mega marathons and was a little apprehensive about the "smallness" of GB, but i was pleasantly surprised. i thought the organization was great, pasta dinner was decent, loved that parking was available and free, easy for spectators to navigate, adequate water/aid stations, easy/flat course. the weather was also perfect, too!

i have only 2 minor gripes, the first being that compared to the larger marathons, there really weren't a whole lot of enthusiastic spectators... do you remember running past crowds of 200+ people and it being dead silent?!?? it was the oddest thing. the only noise i heard were feet pounding and breathing. it was almost erie. i do most of my runs solo so that wasn't a huge factor (i still ended up with a 21 min PR) but i think that for the first time marathoner, it would probably behoove them to run a larger marathon where the crowds/adrenaline really carry you.

my second gripe was the t-shirt. it was a hideous color and COTTON. if the organizers could somehow get more spectators out on the course and improve their t-shirt to a tech shirt, i would then be willing to consider calling GB a first class mary Smile all in all, i had a fabulous time and certainly recommend it to anyone considering to run it.

i forget.. are you training for the lakefront? have you run that one before? it will be my first time running it (still not sure if i'll be racing it or using it as a long run) and i'm looking forward to it. i've heard great things about that race as well.

what are your thoughts about GB?
The picture of Mulan and Kessler are so similar! They both have that dopey "I'm not doing anything wrong" looks on their faces. Unfortunately we had to put Kessler down about a year ago, so my picture is more memorial than anything. Labs are the best and Kessler had the greatest personality of any dog I've ever known. She was completely indifferent, independent and stubborn and we really miss her. I'm not sure when we'll get another dog, but it will be a lab.

I've only run one other marathon before and that was in Madison, so I've never really run a "big race". I'm not sure if everyone was just freezing to death, but there really weren't many spectators on the course and the ones who were there were quiet. I saw some people looking out of their windows, so maybe they would have come out if the temps were a little warmer. I always run alone as well, so it didn't bother me to have just a few people there.

I completely agree with the t-shirt gripe - they weren't any better than what you'd get doing a local 5K run. My wife ran the 5K that day and the shirts were pretty much the same except hers was white and mine was the ugly pea soup green.

I've signed up for the Lakefront, but am battling an achilles issue right now, but I think I should be ready. I guess I'd rather have a problem now than in six weeks, so I'm taking a little time to heal. Next year there's a race in La Cross and Eau Claire, both inaugural events and I may run one of those. Still a long way away, but the signup (I think) starts August 1st.
