TJN: I did the Mad-City half in 2004. It was my PR to-date. It was great, drizzly and cool, until after I finished (1:45:29), then the skies opened. I got drenched just getting to my car, and it rained so hard all the way home (30 miles SE of Madison) you could hardly see to drive. I remember thinking "I bet those marathoners are miserable.."
I guess it was really hot in '06. Last year, 2007, I did the full, the conditions were beautiful, it got a little warm by the end, but it was a great day - and my marathon PR (3:40:51).
Happy New Year!!! Going for an 8-miler after the Outback Bowl, GO BADGERS!! |

It was definitely a memory ... Today is going to be a rest day for me.
Right now I'm on the couch, watching the ESPN "know it alls" make their predictions. Once again, the SEC is getting all the hype ....
Go Bucky!! Tim |

Heading out to AZ for Rock N Roll next week doing the full marathon. it is my first big race since the Mad City HM last year... had a good race there PR 1:33. big hopes for AZ. I do most of my runs on teh bike path between camp randall and the beltline.
i have not been involved in the cool running forums but these seem pretty friendly and open, so that seems good to me...look forward to this forum.

Hi! Mind if I join you?
My name is Lisa and I'm a really new runner...just finished c25k last week and I'm starting HH's Spring Training this week. I live in Frederic over by the MN border. I'm also fairly new to WI (and WI winters as well) as I moved here from Oklahoma last year. I'm planning on doing a 5k in Duluth in April and then I think that I'm going to try the quarter at Mad City this year. |

Lisa we came to Madison from Wichita, KS 3 years ago...love the winters here, as (up til today) you get snow with the cold, not just ice and wind. We still hibernate a bit as a family, but I try and stay off the tread mill, with gore tex and gaiters...
I will try to send a good race report, when I get back, the weather looks great as of now...
Thanks for the support...I will do a mile for Bucky! |

welcome Ryan and Lisa.
Need a little help from the experienced Badger runners. How is the Madison marathon course? Is it hilly or flat? I'm going in for the HM. Considering the HM in Waukesha as well, I believe it is the REMAX trailbreaker?
ryan - good luck, our weather will be back to cold.
take care all. |

The Madcity half is pretty flat. You go downhill from the capitol, and the only big uphill I remember was going up Monroe Street, from Camp Randall to Edgewood, but that isn't too bad. |

I've never heard anything but great things about CrazyLegs. I had hopes of running it as one of my first races, but I'm dealing with shin splints, so I'll have to plan to go in '09 instead.
I lived in Madison for about 9 months (Fitchburg actually) and it was better than average for Wisconsin as far as trails and places to run. However, most of my WI experience has been in smaller towns that I currently live in and grew up in. (No need for trails when you live on a country road. )
I'm still trucking through the training. I fell off the wagon during the holidays, but I'm getting back to it now. It's frustrating going slow, but I'd rather take the time and go slow now rather than later. At least that's what I have to keep telling myself so I don't take off sprinting and really hurt myself. |
