I'm not doing much until April 5th when I plan on running the Trailbreaker Half Marathon in Waukesha. Anyone else racing soon?

If you call what I do racing ...
I'm planning on doing the St.Paul Winter Carnival Half at the end of January. Every year I talk about doing it, however last year was the first time it was close to warm enough to do it.

Other than that just a local 5miler in February.

Not sure if any of you have been to this site before:

Seems like they have a solid calendar on there and it seems fairly active.
Hope it helps!

I have PF chang RNR AZ marathon this weekend, and planning to do the Ice Age Trail 50 in May.
Has anyone done the Lake Geneva marathon?

I actually have belonged to the Striders for a couple of years and they have very good resources for races, including build up long runs for the Lakefront Marathon. It's a good group, although I'm not very active. I've voulunteered for a couple of races and it was fun not running a race, but being part of it.

I've only run the Mad City Marathon and am planning to run Green Bay in the spring. I can't even imagine what the Ice Age Trail 50 would be like, but I'm guessing it would be painful.

Race Reprt RN AZ
Well, I have NO complaints. I PR'd by about 51 minutes with a 3:33:37 finish..my Garmin time was just a couple minutes less, due to couple of Natures calls.
Kudos to the Madison guy in the Endurance house shirt that did his best to pull me the last half mile. I left all I had on the course...had enough left to really enjoy the PR and finish. The race overall had great fan support and plenty of water, which I should have drank more of.
I had a headache the whole time, but I ran through it. Two special people helped me in the hardest spots. Glory Gensch (www.racecharities.org) and little Trevor Kott (www.trevorkott.com). As well as my 3 kids and lovely bride who was home here shoveling snow while I was running.
Boston is still 23 minutes away...but someday...

51 minutes ... wow
... Congratulations!!! You must be so pumped to see all that hard work payoff with a great race.
Rest up and enjoy your accomplishment. You're going to have to give us a complete race report sometime.

Congratulations!!! That's a huge improvement. How long ago was your last PR? I'm sure a BQ is in the future with improvements like that!

Last Full Marathon was Madison 2006, I did a 1:33 HM at Madion LY. I am going to try to work on a strong BQ program for a fall race, Milwaukee, Chicago or Twin Cities I think. At this point I need to find 23 minute. Not impossble, but will take a lot of hard work...as it should! If I miss this fall, I get 5 more minutes next fall, so 2010 should be within reach.
If anyone has any good suggestions for me, tricks, special programs etc. Let me know. I try not to believe everything I read or hear, but to balance most of it and test out what works for ME.
One thing I do want to find out more about is taking a 6'2" 195-199 lb frame down to 185. I hear you get 2 second/mile for each lb lost. so 20 seconds/mile would be HUGE.
I am not too upper body heavy, can loose midsection with core work. But, I have solid upper legs, not fat, just not lean runners thighs...know what i mean?
I would like to lean up the muscle mass, trim my core and go faster...
Well, I guess I just figured out my plan. That was the easy part, now I need to execute?!?!?! That is where I could use some suggestions.

Ryan,
I just saw your report on the PF Chang Marathon - 3:33 is a great run, congratulations. I have the same "problem" that you mentioned as far as carrying a little extra bulk. I'm also 6'2" and my weight has been hanging in at 190-195 for the last seven years. I've had been running at a 8:30 pace for as long as I can remember and it seemed like I was always getting little nagging injuries. I decided last October to cut out some of the junk food (even though I eat a pretty healthy diet) and watch what I eat. I've now down to about 181, which is about where I hoped to be. I lift weights 2-3 times a week, so I really haven't lost muscle.
I was able to drop the weight by keeping a journal of everything I ate throughout the day and all of my calories. I was surprised how quickly calories add up, even if it's a handful of almonds or some pretzels. I've noticed a reduction of about 30 seconds off my pace on easy runs and I'm planning speedwork this spring which will hopefully make me quicker.
Congrat's again on the race.

jim thanks for the input...i need to do that, but i realized that when my wife came home last night with (light) ice cream...i have ZERO will power. I love to eat, and have a insatiable sweet tooth.
I need to have some healthy snacks handy in the office, fill with water, add some weights...
Since I have run (started at 230#) i went from a 38 waist to a 34...not sure if I can afford another wardrobe?
So...i will take your challenge, a food log it is...maybe if I can hit your weight by fall, we can go head to head in a virtual race!!!
