The half ends at the border and the 20 ends in Hampton.  I will take the bus back to Hampton and try to find you at the finish.

That is so weird.  I wouldn't believe you but that's what the map we got emailed last night says.  I guess the timing on that might work out OK if you are saying 1:00 and we will be 1:30-1:45.  You will need a ride back to your car then, yes?  And Alicia, your car can handle 7 for a short while back to Wallis Sands?

Good luck to all you 20 milers!

      What was I chasing again?

I saw rick tonight at the Y and he said if you check a bag at the start it has to be in a clear plastic bag. I can't find anything on the website or emails to confirm this. Has anyone else seen it anywhere?

Baggage: As you can well imagine, security issues have created new challenges for road races. We have

always maintained a liberal baggage check policy, however this year we will need to be stricter. As such, if you

plan to check a bag at Portsmouth High School, it must be clear and easily searchable, with just basic clothing

items, no electronic devices or the like. (Clear bags are available at Home Depot, Walmart, etc). To make it

easiest for yourself and the race, come prepared to run and avoid checking a bag at all. This year the race will

finish fairly close to where you parked (at the Hampton Casino) so you will not have to wait after the race for

a shuttle bus back to Hampton Beach. In addition, you will be waiting inside a warm Portsmouth High School

          before the race.

If you do feel the need to bring a bag, please have it well secured and clearly marked with a tag indicating your

race number (the numbers will be posted on-line before the race) and bring it with you to the high school. The

baggage will be securely kept on one of the buses, a short walk from the finish line. Just keep moving through

the finish and you will be directed to the baggage retrieval.

The weird thing about the 1/2M map is that it shows the start for the half at a different state park further north on 1A but still ends at the state line.  I didn't see any deviation of the course from last year and it stated it was 16+ miles.

If there is no room in the homeward bound car, I will plan to drive to the casino and take the bus to the start. If there is an overflow in the vehicle getting to Casino, they can ride with me. Greg C said you were leaving at 7:15 to get to the buses at the Casino. Does that mean that Alicia is racing?

              L Train

Yes she is, and there should be room in the car for 7.  I'm very confused about the maps and the separate start/finishes.  It just doesn't make any sense to me to have the separate finishes. I bet you could email Don to get confirmation of it because I don't believe it.

                Jim in Wells

Patti is picking me up at the end of the 20 so if anyone needs a ride we'll have room in our van ... you'll just wait a while 'cause you'll all finish a lot sooner then I will.

                  GregM

Like the rest of you, I am somewhat confused about the course.

My problem is that I do not have a bus pass.  I've emailed the RD, and he sent me a link to the bus registration which says that it's too late.  He's not gotten back to me as to whether I'll be able to get on the bus as a result of my email request to him.  So I might have to park at the start (Portsmouth HS) and get a ride back there in Alicia's van or Rick's car.

Jim in Wells, if I find you and Patti at the finish, I suppose I could get a ride back to the high school (and my car) with you.  I'll look for you tomorrow at the start and at the finish if this is my return option.

PS.  Having checked the bus info on the race website, it looks like I can simply bring $5 cash for bus service to the start from the Casino parking lot.  However, I'm more inclined to park at the high school, since it appears that the bus from the finish to the Casino is free.  Anyone else interested in doing this (and getting more sleep)?

PPS.  I wish I had a van, in which case we could meet at the Y at 8:30, drive to the Casino, drop off one van by 9:30, and then drive to the start at Portsmouth HS (all of us) arriving by 10am.

PPPS.  My cell is 207-651-2770 in case anyone wants to go with me from the Y at 9am.  My plan is to drive directly to Portsmouth HS and mooch a ride from the Casino back to the start.

Older, slower, and trying to keep up with Tall Dave.

This is going to be fun.

Folks, don't dismay.   We will have a 17mph TAIL WIND.  The heavy rain starts at 4am and ends at 9am.  Thereafter, the remaining rain turns to showers by 1pm.  Temp is 40 degrees.  So these are IDEAL conditions.

Older, slower, and trying to keep up with Tall Dave.

I'm busy building it up in my mind into a scenario where we're running through the STORM OF THE CENTURY. That way, anything short of that won't seem so bad.

A list of my PRs in a misguided attempt to impress people that do not care.

You could pretend that it is the Perfect Storm and George Clooney is chasing after you

It may be too late for this, but I could make a suggestion. Greg2 or others could be dropped off at the high school and the rest would go to the Casino for the bus.  Another choice is that I drop Greg2 on my way to Wallis Sands.  Let me know.

                              GregM

I have spoken to Rick and told him I plan to have my car for flexibility after.  I will look for him and others at the Ashworth where I plan to go to change into dry clothes and get some hot soup to warm up.  Oh, and perhaps some beer too?  I expect to finish with Scott Jordan and hope to get a ride back to the high school with him and then join the rest of you at a watering hole with burgers and fries in Portsmouth.  I'll have my car, so I can take some of you back to Sanford in my car in case some want to stay longer than others.
