Hello!!!! I thought I would check in. How is everyone doing? And hi to all the new people as well. i am doing well these days. I had a rocky end of winter with my smoking for sure. After 5 months of no smoking, I smoked on and off for a while there. It was rough. No running, smoking, and just in a funk in general with school etc.. I am happy to report I am back to not smoking full time. No medicine just me. With the exception of really stressful moments, the urge to smoke is gone for the first time. i love being smoke free. I got rid of my car for the summer. And I really like not driving. its about 8 miles round trip on my bike everyday. Which provides good exercise. Plus I have started running again. I just wanted to check in and hope i can keep up more often now. i have to say that when I really realized I was in trouble with my relapse in smoking, I thought about all the warmth and support you guys have given me and it helped. Thanks guys! Des

Hey Des! GREAT to hear from you again! Glad to hear you're comitted to not smoking again. Sorry bout the relapse, but so glad you are back. I'm still not smoking, 10 months now. Wow! I had lost track there for a bit. Was doing fairly well running and all for awhile there, but have fallen out of it due to a nagging foot issue. Since my quit date I have; run a 5k, 2 half marathons, and 2 triathalons. I think after the second half is when I hurt my foot, and the two tri's ( both in a week ) didn't help it any. So, I've ridden my bike a little, and swim some but have not run since June 7th. Supposed to run a half Iron in Aug. but think I might drop that one. Whoa, sorry bout the rambling on there. Anyways, wicked glad to have you back. Hang in there with the non-smoking, you can do it. A

Andy Congrats on the 10 months thats awesome. You have been way busy. I hope you are headed toward a speedy recovery with your foot.

        My legs are killing me

Hey Dray, Good to see you back! It sucks relapsing. I know because I've done it too. I know that when things are going well with not smoking it is easy to say "one won't hurt" but that one is a slippery slope, but the one thing I noticed is how crappy I feel and how rotten my lungs feel. It's something you never notice when you are smoking. Glad to see that your back running and not smoking! Keep up the good work. Andy, I'll be in your neck of the woods on Sunday. I'm going to see the NASCAR race in Loudon.

          Gotta TRI

Hey Sully! Great to hear from you. Man you will be close to my neck. I've been going to the Loudon races for years, but recently had a falling out with the one I used to go there with so haven't gone to the last couple of races. What you been up to? Des, How's it going?

Going good. I have been doing a lot of cycling for me. The not smoking is going great! Sully good to hear from you, and I totally agree with you on the one being a slippery slope.

Hiya, Des! Way to get back on the horse. This thread must have really gotten into my head. I had a dream last night that I fell off the wagon and was dreading posting about it. In real life, I'm over 11 months smoke free. July 21st is my year anniversary. Big grin

Thanks everyone. Yeah a relapse is not so great. I never got the place I was when I quit in November but I felt like I was heading there. Yikes. I have been feeling really good lately, and no smoking. I have a lot of geeky hobbies like knitting and videogames so that keeps my little hands busy. Andy: how is the healing going? Also you cycle as well if I remember correctly. If you do what is a good millage for you per week? I have been riding a lot and enjoying it.

                  Gotta TRI

Hey Des, Happy 4th! Healings going alright, but I've lost so much of my run now. I'm back to small 2-3 mile runs with an occaisional 5 miler. Cyclings not too bad though it seems to be aggravating my foot as well. My last ride was 23 miles and I'd like to be doing that a few times a week. I'm also swimming a few miles per week. All in all, this is what I "should" be doing more consistently every week, but it never happens. Lately I'm lucky to get one of the three in once a week. Sad Glad to hear you're back on track. Hobbies are good, as well as your cycling and / or running. Besides. It's the 4th of July. Celebrate your independance. ( not co-dependance Big grin) Sully, you out there? How was Louden? I looked for you. lol. Hard to pick anyone out on the big screen. I felt bad for Dale jr. He was running pretty well. Shame he was picked off in the corner like that. And what was up with Montoya? Hey Obie, Happy 4th. Congrats on 11months. How's things? A

                    My legs are killing me

Hey Andy, The race was good. We left right after the caution on lap 218 and got back to the car just has it started raining. I think there are alot of Jr fans who like Montoya now after he spun Busch out. lol That's a nice track up there and a good place to watch a race. How's the foot? I'm 3 weeks into my marathon training for NYC. I'm really looking forward to that.

Obie: congrats on 11 months. thats awesome. andy: i hope your foot is getting better. i went for a really nice run last night. i am getting better at the running these days. i am biking about 35 miles a week. it feels good to be active. sully: thanks for the support.

                        Gotta TRI

Hey gang. Glad to hear you enjoyed the race and didn't get soaked there Sully. How goes the training for the marathon? Can't wait to hear how that goes. Des, good to hear the running is getting better. And cycling too! When ya going for the TRI-fecta? Big grin I see a foot specialist on Friday, so I hope that will help. The pain has been getting a little better, and I've been trying to get some runs in but totally screwed up this weekend. Remember those new shoes i got before my last race? ( remember the last race report? ) You know, the ones designed to run sockless? Yeah, well, no more of that for me. I've got a HUGE blister on my left foot-yes the same foot that's been bugging me-again. I still went for another run tonight, with socks, and it didn't hurt too bad so.....What can I say, glutton for punishment or just really stupid haven't decided that one yet Big grin Anyhow, got to watch my personal "hero" run this weekend. I went to rhode Island to watch Todd Crandell of Racing for Recovery run an Ironman 70.3 and got to hang with him all weekend. He's one of the reasons I quit smoking and started running. To learn more about him and what he does check out www.racingforrecovery.com So, working towards my next event, a 70.3 triathlon in my neck of the woods that coincidentally Todd will be running as well. In fact until this weekend I was thinking of dropping that event. Well, enough yammering for me, hope all is well with all of you guys. Talk to ya later.

Andy: how was the trip to the foot specialist? running is going well. living in the Midwest and running outside at this time of year is getting tricky. I run at night mainly but want to change it up to the morning. I am actually thinking about starting swimming. They are renovating the gym with the pool so that is on hold for me until it is done. Sad How is everyone?

                            Gotta TRI

Hey Des, The foot still hurts, but I'm trying to run as well. I saw the specialist last Friday and he is making me some custom orthotics that should do the trick. I see him again next week. I think scheduling is the hardest part of running. I always end up running in the afternoon as I have to be at work at 6:00am. My wife on the other hand has time in the morning but gets home late, so she runs in the a.m. It gets tough as the temps. get higher and the humidity kicks in but I see it as the more I sweat the more calories I burn Big grin Take care all
