Signed up for the Parkway Classic in April and added a 10k that my HM training plan called for!
Date: Feb. 18th
Race: GW Birthday Classic
Event URL: http://www.pacersevents.com/gwbirthdayclassic/index.html
Distance: 10k
Location: Alexandria, VA, USA
Goal Time: 42:00
The goal time's a bit ambitious for where I am now but we'll see. I don't really know what my fitness is like since I've started ramping up my weekly mileage. It might be that I have enough endurance to hold on for 6 miles - don't really know yet but I guess that's why I'm encouraged to do a 10k tuneup before the half! It would be nice to knock off one of my goals so early and is sure to provide a confidence boost before the half I'm targeting in March.
I ran. I ran until my muscles burned and my veins pumped battery acid. Then I ran some more.
Future Goals: 5:30 mile • 19:30 5k • 33:30 8k • 42:00 10k • 1:15:00 10-mile • 1:40:00 half-marathon • 1000 miles
an amazing likeness

Date: March 25, 2012 Race: Eastern States 20 Mile Event URL: http://www.easternstates20mile.com/ Distance: 20 miles Location: Kittery Maine, through NH, to Salisbury, MA Goal Time: 2:46:30

Event URL: http://www.easternstates20mile.com/
Distance: 20 miles

Goal Time: 2:46:30
(The race course got screwed up this year by the small problem the bridge between Maine and New Hampshire rusting away and closing. Screw that...the attraction is the race goes through 3 states and 7 towns. Not 2 states and we'll make up the distance somewhere in Massachusetts.)
Adding:
Date: March 11, 2012
Race: Midcoast Half Marathon
Event URL: www.midcoasthalfmarathon.com
Location: Lincolnville, ME
Goal Time: 1:43:00
I'm signing up for a St. Patrick's Day 10K put on my our local Park & Rec Dept. It is the same route as last Dec. RainDeer Run, so theoretically I should be able to compete with my past result to do better. IRL though, I'll probably be slower since I'm still recovering from an arch strain that happened a few weeks ago. I don't think any races I enter this year will be done with any time goal in mind. I'm usually pleasantly surprised by my results though.
Don't make excuses for why you can't get it done.
Focus on all the reasons why you must make it happen.
Date: Feb 5, 2012 Race: Mid Winter Classic 10 Miler Event URL: http://www.midwinterclassic10miler.com/ Distance: 10 miles Location: Cape Elizabeth, ME Goal Time: <1:15:00 (10 mile PR)

Event URL: http://www.midwinterclassic10miler.com/
Distance: 10 miles
Location: Cape Elizabeth, ME
Goal Time: <1:15:00 (10 mile PR)
Ran a 1:15:10 -- 10 mile PR by about 61 seconds. (But haven't run many 10 milers)
Great run! I like the distance as I can manage a good pace for 10 miles, but it really is tough because you push so hard for so long.
How were conditions for the race, cool? How about the course, support etc?
PBs since age 60: 5k- 24:36, 10k - 47:17. Half Marathon- 1:42:41.
10 miles (unofficial) 1:16:44.
Perfect weather, Simon -- about 20F, no wind, and no snow on the roads. Course is a hilly little nugget -- nothing major, but steady up and down with a long, steady climb from 9 to 9.6 to beat the finish spirit out of you. Course is well marshaled, there's just a few intersections as it is a large circle course that curves around a salt marsh with the ocean nearby. Also it's a Sunday morning in a quiet area. There are 3 aid stations at 2.5 / 5 / 7 miles with water and Gatorade, and timing split clock at mile 5 -- as someone said, it's a runner's race.
Capped at 800. It's very popular, and usually involves battling some winter elements. Start/finish is at a local high school and most years we huddle in the school, then race out into the elements for the start, and then back to the school cafeteria for post-race change, awards, pizza and stuff.
Lots of RA folks ran it this year -- RoadShuffler, Greg_C, RCuch, Xhristopher and MaineRunnah were all there. (personally, I don't know them all, but have met Roadshuffler, Mainerunnah and Greg_C at various races) RA'er Run2Win is one of the RDs.
You can take me off for running the 10k next week, and it's looking unlikely that I'll be able to run the half in March as well.
My plans have also changed. I won't be doing Palm Springs this weekend, but will be running this:
Date: February 18
Race: Bay Breeze Half Marathon
