Half Marathon Trainers-January 2009 (Read 538 times)

Sounds positive, Larry! I have had visitors come over at times when I planned to run two separate evenings this week, quite annoying. Tonight my wife is going to the casino and my son to visit his girlfriend, so I should get a 90 minute run done! Getting a lot milder weather recently, nice 28 minutes last night without a jacket.

    PBs since age 60:  5k- 24:36, 10k - 47:17. Half Marathon- 1:42:41.

                                        10 miles (unofficial) 1:16:44.

That's funny that you got milder weather, Simon. Florida's having its coolest weather in years. It was 34 here Wednesday morning and I "htfud" and got my 6 miles in. I was the only runner out on the roads. Ran another 5 last night in mid-40s or so and I tell you, they've been some of my favorite runs. The farmers aren't appreciating the frost and freeze warnings, but I'm loving it! I wish it would hang out til the weekend for my long run but it seems unlikely. Darn those warm waters!

No problem Vixi. I appreciate the thought. So what's the Marathon you're running?
Hey, Larry, sorry it took me so long to see your question. I'm more in tune with the races up my end, which is a couple counties north. I'm hoping the 5k I ran last year that weekend will be repeated, but it would be a couple hours' drive for you and not worth it. I'm glad you found something that's more doable. Sorry I've been so absent. I'm running . . . I'm six weeks out from my marathon and thinking crazy thoughts. I just clicked the "register" button over at active and now I'm wondering WHAT WAS I THINKING? But training is going mostly well. I've got another 20 this weekend and I'm hoping to have company for at least some of the early miles. When I get past this race I'll settle down and start picking out HMs.

Mr. PH, my fall half is my goal race as well, with the one I registered for today, for April 26th. on a hilly but very nice course, more for fun. (Not that I won't run as hard as I can!) Nice 10k or so tonight, smelt the woodsmoke from fireplaces and woodstoves as I ran. About -6 degrees C so maybe 21F I think. My son has been doing some of his runs holding a 5lb weight in each hand, seems like a good idea for upper body strength- I may try that myself.

I'm doing the Gasparilla Distance Classic. At first I was nervous about the fact that they have different-colored bibs for those doing their first marathons, and I'm told by experienced marathoners than any additional cheering goes a long way after mile 22. It's in Tampa Bay. We're back to our typical weather here--it was 70 when I set out today. I'm starting to worry a little about the temps March 1 but thankfully the west coast of the state generally is a few degrees cooler. A 5lb weight, huh, Simon? My arms would fall off by the end of the block.
