I created a
Running Weight-Loss Calculator
. You enter your age, height, current weight, hours per week of running, average running speed, and desired weight loss per week, and it tells you the maximum amount of food you can eat per day.

You are my hero, Stephen. I've learned so much from you and your blog about common sense weight loss and you have topped yourself once again! Thanks!

Your calculator is amazing! If I'd had that a year ago, I wouldn't have had to figure out my calories by trial & error - it's incredibly accurate!

Girls, look at Stephen - he blushes!
But seriously; this is a great tool!
It also shows that you need to set your mind to something to achieve it. Losing weight means lifestyle change. To accomplish that you have to first understand how things work.
I think you have motivated many of us on here and have helped us to be successful through your research.
This can never be achieved by all the quick gimmicks "as seen on TV - the ab-master, Alli - the latest wonderdrug that gives you explosive diarrhea, Womesworld - lose 10 pounds in 5 days ... ) We are overall a society of instant gratification.
I am also a critic of the Lap-band. Some of my co-workers had it done. I was told about it later and just thought "well, they are still fat. Maybe they were fatter before, but still." No exercise in their lifes at all. Diet change - not so much. The band is about portion control, but they still eat a lot of fast food etc. / End rant. Ask me how I really feel.
Run whenever you can, walk if you must, crawl if you have to - but never give up! ........

Stephen, that calculator is so good you ought to see if there is a way for Eric to incorporate it or something like it in the "Tools" section of RA!

I have updated the calculator to give both your BMR and AMR. Also, for the number of calories you can eat, I show it as a pecentage of both your BMR and AMR. Lastly, I added some usage notes...
