    Pre Race:

Arrived in Atlanta on Saturday.  Went to the expo and got my bib.  Felt great about my nutrition.

    Race Day:

Met NotTooSwift at 3:55 pace group.  Stuck with them the first 17-18 miles.  I felt great until mile 18, but the hills got to me.  I think I would have done sub-4:00 if the course was less hilly between miles 18-20.  I took Gu at 20 miles and ran in at about a 10:00 min/mile.

    Splits:

    Mile 2: 17:43 (missed mile 1)

    Mile 3:  9:09

    Mile 4:  8:54

    Mile 5:  8:35

    Mile 6:  9:04

    Mile 7:  8:51

    Mile 8:  8:45

    Mile 9:  8:35

    Mile 10: 8:56

    Mile 11: 9:07

    Mile 12: 8:21

    Mile 13: 8:47

    Mile 14: 8:39

    Mile 15: 8:41

    Mile 16: 8:34

Mile 17: 9:15 (first brutal hill)

Mile 18: 10:08 (still on the hill)

    Mile 19:  9:26

Mile 20:  11:57 (yikes hill again)

    Mile 21:  9:50

    Mile 22: 9:47

    Mile 23: 10:48 (another hill)

    Mile 24: 9:58

    Mile 25:  11:49 (another hill)

    Mile 26 and .2: 12:05

    Finish time: 4:05:41

    Jodi

    PR:

    Half: 1:48 (March 3rd, 2013)

    Full: 4:05:40 (March 17th, 2013)

    2013/2014 Goals:

    Sub-4:00 hour Marathon

    Sub- 125 pounds
    Sub- 1:45 hour half.

      Jodi,

Still a PR, right?  Why do so many courses have the bad hills at mile 18-20.  3 of the 6 I have run have had them right around there.

Hope you're happy with the result and had a great time

Yes, still a 10:00 min PR.  Met all but one goal...

        Go figure

Great job on the new PR. Looking at your splits, I can see that the course had its ups and downs, and I wouldn't be surprised if you had some wind too. I hope you're feeling well and that you have a great day of recovery. We'll be looking for a sub4 in the next one and I'm sure you have it in you.

          PRs:  Marathon (2:49xx; '13)  Half (1:25xx; '12) 10k (40:26; '11) 5mi (29:23; '13) 5k (17:33; '13)

Wow, a 10 minute PR is pretty great.  Sorry it wasn't sub-4 but, yeah, hills late in a race are not good.  It's cool that you and Not too Swift got to run together, though!

Run the mile you are in.

            Finally PRed!!!

Congrats on the big PR, jojo!! I'm glad I got to meet you and run with you part of the way! I didn't make my time goal, was on track until 22 or so, then the warmer temps at the end did me in. Obviously I should have stayed with the pacers early on, as they blew past me in the last few miles.

Yes, SIAR, we did have a bit of wind too, seemed like a nice breeze for much of the race, but we were running into it and uphill toward the end. I'll write up my own RR though, ha, instead of cluttering up jojo's here...

Anyway, great job jojo, getting a big PR on a tough course!!

Me too, I think I would have gone 4:00 or better...

                Mostly Harmless

Congrats on a HUGE PR today Jodi! On a hilly course like that too.  I'm with everyone else in thinking that if you run one on a flatter course you'll go sub 4:00 for sure.  Also way cool that you got to meet and run with NTS for this race.  Congratulations, I'm sure you are very pleased!

SIAR-- yep it was kinda windy, but it felt good more than bad.  The temperatures actually didn't bother me too much.  That's a benefit of being a Floridian, I train in 70-80s, so 50-60s weren't too bad.  The only thing that really got to me were those hills.  The one really huge thing I got out of this race, and learned from it, was to stick with the pacers, NTS and I for a long time went out really fast for the conditions and the course.  Usually, I make 4 goals for a race:

                    1.  To finish (which I did Smile).

                    2.  To run 99% of the race (which I did Smile).

                    3.  To have a PR (which I did Smile)

                    4.  To go sub-4:00 (not in the cards today).

Great job on the new PR. Looking at your splits, I can see that the course had its ups and downs, and I wouldn't be surprised if you had some wind too. I hope you're feeling well and that you have a great day of recovery. We'll be looking for a sub4 in the next one and I'm sure you have it in you.

Congrats on the PR.  Now find a flat marathon and kill this PR too!
