Run like a kid again!
I'm trying to figure out how I am going to keep my streak alive but also how to give myself the best chance I can for a great time for my marathon.
How do you guys do the taper with a running streak or is it impossible to do both. I have been trying to do 6 miles on Friday Morning, 4 miles on Saturday morning and then my long runs at a good pace on Sunday Mornings. It has worked out pretty well but I've never felt what I would call fresh.
I will be running my 4th marathon since I started the streak and haven't really had a problem yet. I would do whatever taper you would normally do except of course if you would have taken the day off. It is really the day after that some might find more problematic -- I generally go out for a 1.25 loop around the neighborhood to keep the streak going. Good luck!

Same here - do whatever taper you had planned, but when you have a day off planned, just throw in a 1 miler.
I am training for a marathon right now and on Tuesdays I run a 1 miler each week (okay, today was 2 miles).
Maybe I am misunderstanding your question because it seems to me that as you taper you run less miles, so a 1 miler wouldnt throw off your mileage (of which you seem to be running a ton right now - wow).
Good luck
Jeff
By the way, I generally do 7-8 miles Friday and then 4 miles Saturday before a long run. Maybe you need to slow down a bit those days to keep the legs fresh -- just a thought.

Okay so in other words a day off is 2 miles (Just have a hard time thinking it is worth getting dressed for anything less then that.). I need to throw some of those into the equation during the taper period. Great advice. I just didn't know if others had success with this sort of thing or if I had to take days off to give myself my best marathon time. I kind of like the whole streak thing.
BTW - I may have the miles but approaching 1000 days of non-stop running is pretty amazing stuff.
That is exactly what I have been doing if you look at my log. I have been running 6 miles on Friday Morning, 4 Miles on Saturday Morning and then on Sunday I feel I can really push the pace. This week will be a huge test as I am running a half with the same sort of miles during the week. I'm just trying to figure out what my taper is going to look like. Here is my rough draft.

Just as an FYI - I ran my best marathon while streaking, dropping about 45 minutes off my PR so it is definitely possible. also, like Ojo said, just run really really slow on those off days and you'll find that it really doesnt tax the legs at all.
Best of luck
