I ran along a wooded path called the Bugline near my house and there were deerfly everywhere. I had 3 or 4 at a time buzzing around my head. Not good running conditions.

I'm so glad we don't get those much here. Mosquitos are what we get the most of. Those suckers can still get me...I need to run faster! Tongue

For some reason bugs always seem attracted to me and I can't outrun the little bastards. I run down the path with my arms waving in the air looking like an idiot. I was bitten a couple of days ago and they're out for blood - literally!

I haven't run the bugline yet but I bike there with the kids from time to time. It didn't get that name for nothin'. I've always been impressed with deerflies. They are persistent and annoying as all get out. Mosquitos bug me like crazy when I am stationary but they don't seem to get a good bead on me whist I run.

Good luck to you marathon runners. My son and I plan to volunteer a few Badgerland Stridder training runs as water boys. But no 26.2 for me this year. I've run a 1/2 marathon in practice many years ago but at this point I think 10k is my practical limit. I do admire you folks though.

Jim, I understand completely. As the name implies, I run alot of back roads. The deerfly's love the dirt roads!! And they seem exceptionally vicious & high in numbers this year. If I don't stick to the paved roads, it isn't unusual to have 6-8 of them at a time buzzing around myself & my dog. And they bite hard!!

I have yet to find a spray that repels the little bastards, for me or my dog!! They seem to prefer movement as opposed to only attacking when you are still. I have a bite behind my L ear from long run last week that is itching like crazy!

Let me know if anyone finds a good deerfly repellent! Happy bug running!
