Ok, so I am no longer a resident of the great state of beer, brats, and cheese, but due to DH being out of town the weekend of the Grand Rapids Marathon I have decided to make my marathon debut in Milwaukee, in the state of my birth. My folks, sister and nephews still live in WI and I have other family members in Milwaukee, too. My brother is an hour NW of Chicago, so it would be easy for him to come cheer me on, as well.

Anyone else planning to run this event? I haven't yet registered--when would I be wise to do this by?

Assuming that I'm still able to run after the Green Bay Marathon May 18th, I'm in. If not, I may be one of the guys handing you a cup of water or directing you to the restrooms because I'll probably volunteer for something.

The race always fills up, so enter as soon as you feel confident that you're going to run. I've heard that the they are opening up 250 spots to individual runners and cutting back on teams, so there may be a little bigger of a window to enter. Last year they closed registration on June 6th, which was 6 weeks earlier than 2006.

There is a forum on the race which I found kind of interesting. The Badgerland Striders is a running group in the Milwaukee area that puts on the race. To check it out go to:

badgerlandstriders.org

Then click on Club Info (right under the picture of WI) and then graffiti board to get more info and a forum about the race.

Good luck to everyone on their training!

Hey, have you run GB before? That's one I may do next year, assuming my first doesn't make me swear-off anything longer than 25k. My folks live about an hour from GB, so it would be nice to do that one. I'd love that Lambeau Field finish! Smile

I've only run one marathon before and that was Madison in 2005. That's why I want to see what happens in Green Bay before I commit to the Lakefront Marathon. When I ran Madison, I was having IT band issues prior to the race in my right leg and after the race in my left leg. I was a mess and out for about 2 months. I think I'm training much smarter now and I've been building my mileage much more slowly and so far (I'm knocking on wood as I type this) have been injury free.

I'm going to do the Trailbreaker Half Marathon in April as kind of a warmup to Green Bay. I've run it for the last 3 years and it's kind of a pathetic little race and is usually held on a record breaking cold or rainy day, but it gives me something to train for.

Getting to run in Lambeau Field is the coolest thing!!! I've only been to a couple of games there, but never imagined that I would ever get on the field. Somehow I'm going to touch the grass - I just have to. Maybe I'll fake tying my shoe and give the turf a little feel.

I'll be staying at my mother-in-laws condo with my wife in Keil, (which is about an hour South of Green Bay) the night before the race. I normally don't sleep well outside of my own bed, so it will be interesting to see if I'm up at 3:00 AM ready to go.

I have this problem, too...it's the one thing that has me less eager to do marathons away from home.

Chris,

Welcome to the group. I'm still on the fence about running the Lakefront Marathon and will be until May 19th, the day after the Green Bay Marathon. That's when I'll know if my legs want me to run the Lakefront.

Good Luck at Green Bay Jim! I had thought about running the full at Green Bay this year also, but decided to just run one this year. I will be doing the half though, and I'm also doing the Oshkosh half marathon in April. I am also like you guys and can't sleep away from home, so I will be getting up early and driving to both events. Kirsten, I've heard rumors that Brat Days will no longer have johnsonville at their event next year. I have a hard time believing this is true, but if that is the case i don't know how it will effect the Brat Trot.. Hopefully they stay with Johnsonvill their brats are the best! Big grin
