Shocked Wow, Jeff...how many marathons have you done prior? How long have you been running? What sort of base are you able to maintain in the worst of Winter? I can't even fathom running the sorts of miles in your plan. Damn! Smile

hey zoom. I've run two marathons so far (third coming up). Started running in Feb 2007 so not too long, but kind of have an addictive personality. The winter stuff stinks. End up on the treadmill for everything around an 1:00-1:15, but cannot stomach the thought of two hr slog on the treadmill (I don't know many who can and they are amazing if they can!), so end up outside freezing. We are pretty lucky in Mpls that the MDRA (Minnesota Distance Running Association) opens up the Metrodome concourse (1/3 mile) for running twice a week. You can do a lot of good speed work or just lope around in 60 degrees.

Are you getting excited for the run yet?

Dayum...you've only been running a little over a year and already have 2 marathons under your belt?! That's amazing. You must have a pretty natural affinity for running! Smile

Well...I was excited to start training up until a month ago...but it seems like since then I've been dealing with a back-to-back series of illnesses or injuries. Right now asthma (still working with my PCP to get it better controlled--this time of year is the worst) and issue with my right knee are messing with me the worst. My knee is taking a long time to heal. I thought it was almost better, but just in the past 24 hours it's hurting more. I think it may be weather-related, though. Since puberty I have been prone to achey knees when storm fronts come through. I feel like an old woman.

...I just started singing Aretha. good thing I'm alone. I should probably be quiet. Does running exacerbate the knee pain?

Ha!

The knee pains kind of come and go, which is maybe good. Last year I had the same thing, but much worse. Going down stairs or hills was brutal. I've been doing quad exercises ever since this first started and I think it's helped.
