I've finally started bumping up my miles this week, although it was hard to squeeze the miles in. I really didn't do a decent long run because I went to the WI Dells on Saturday and it screwed up my schedule - I hate it when life interferes with running!!! I ended up running on Friday, which is my usual day off and did the 40 miles I had planned. I went over 900 miles for the year this week as well, which also made me happy.
I'll bump it up again; I'm a big believer in the 10% increase per week, so I plan on doing about 44 miles with a long run of about 14 or so.
I hope everyone else had a good running week!

Nice work! This week I have 42 planned, with a long run of 16. I was planning to do my long run tomorrow, but I may push it back to Thurs., when the weather looks more conducive. Today I got to run in the rain, which was fun.

It rained here late morning and you probably got what passed over us. It was raining like hell out there, so if you ran in that, I'm impressed. Really humid when I ran tonight, but no rain, so I'm not complaining.

Eh...no better, no worse. Some days it's totally great, other days it's a dull pain and stiffness (doesn't bother me on some runs, but if it does bug me it kicks-in at around 6 miles...sometimes if it's bothering me pre-run it feels better post-run. Very erratic). More of an annoyance, than anything. When I had tendonitis in my right foot it took probably 3-4 months to resolve, so I have a feeling I'm going to be dealing with this for a while. It would probably heal quickly if I actually stopped running...yeah, like that's gonna happen!
Jeff, I was just looking at your log...116.6 miles a couple of weeks ago--wow! I have months where I don't run so many miles. What do you estimate your time will be at MLM?

Is the knee something that a doc says you have to deal with or is something worse?
Yeah, I had a couple of goods weeks over 110, then decided to taper for grandma's marathon. I'm just learning the tapering thing and have realized that 6 days is enough (not 3 weeks). My taper just messed up the race and training.
I'm not sure about a time for MLM right now. Something has happened in my fitness level in the past 2 weeks that has me a little excited and also worried. The miles are going so much easier than ever before( increased speed without increased intensity.) I'm a pretty big Daniels fan and will probably have to jump into a bunch of 5k's prior to see what marathon pace could be. My thought right now is run the half at 1:16 and see what happens.

*gulp* I actually haven't talked to my doctor (yet...I go in next week to touch base on asthma stuff, so I will mention it). I had knee issues a year ago after I did a 15k race, then sat in the car for 10 hours 2 days later. That was severe pain...stabbing. I could hardly put weight on my knee, then. It went away completely after maybe a month, so I figured this might run the same course.
Given everything I've read I'm pretty sure it's mild patellar tendonitis. I gotta keep hitting the quad work and maybe more often than 2x/week like I'm doing now. I should start making a point of doing a leg workout on one of my easy run days, probably.... I think the leg work I have been doing has kept it from worsening. It's not popping as much as it was, either. Though I have always had noisy knees. I have mild arthritis (came on with puberty) that is worse in my right leg, so I'm sure that's a factor. Running actually seems to help with that, for the most part.
I hope your recent increase in fitness is some sort of breakthrough. I've had a few of those in my own short running career...where out of the blue I am able to run faster paces without any additional effort. Seems to happen in the Fall, after slogging through a lot of hot Summer runs.
Can't wait to see what you do at MLM, though. You can go shower and have a few beers while I'm plodding the course...

with as little as I drink, I'm sure it won't be a problem. My aunt, uncle and cousin, however, will be doing their best. Can't you already taste the first beer after finishing?

YES!
Ha, I am a lightweight, too. I rarely drink more than 2 beers in a sitting before it's sleepy time. I'm a cheap drunk.

Now that you mentioned beer..........
A really strange thing is happening here in Milwaukee. They've reintroduced Schlitz beer back in the market and since I have my parents, aunts and uncles (old people) coming over on Saturday, I thought it would be fun to buy some Schlitz for them. I can't find the stuff anywhere and the liquor stores are selling it out as soon as it comes in. They're actually putting a limit of a single 6-pack on the stuff.
Who would have thunk it???? You can't buy Schlitz??? Something is wrong!

Your "Z Rule" is a good one, that's what's so weird about not being able to buy Schlitz. How is that possible?
