(important part in bold)
It hardly seems possible that we are just a little over a month before race day. All of us here at LFM are busy working to ensure that you have a great race experience and have a great time, too! This is one of a couple of e-mails that you'll receive from me between now and race weekend. You all know that our special guest this year is Dick Beardsley - another running legend. We'll be posting Dick's schedule as soon as we have finalized it. There are several things that are new for 2008... * Additional aid station - we listened to your comments and have added an additional aid station at approximately 10.3 miles. * Packet pick-up will be by name rather than by number as in the past. This means that you don't have to spend time looking at a long list of race numbers AND that we don't have to post all of those sheets at the Expo. We all win on this one! * We have changed the format of the Runners Guide to a tabloid format Guide to be distributed with your packet. This will contain a LARGE map (listening to you, again) and lots of fun information. It will be available on-line in early September, too. * This year we will have special "Cheer Signs" available adjacent to and sponsored by Performance Running Outfitters at their Expo booth. Your friends or children can come there and decorate a sign and take it with them on the course. Fleet Feet also has something special in mind for the kids - special T-shirts that they can decorate to cheer you on! Note that supplies of both will be limited. * Speaking of kids, we'll have a couple of clowns at the Finish Area with balloons and face painting. * The folks at the Bradford Beach House - approximately mile 24 - have some special things planned to cheer you on. Stay tuned for more details on this one. * Not to be a nag... however, we have now consolidated our Race Rules into one document and posted them on the web site. Please review them before race day - and have your spectator crew review them as well. Please... Some things also stay the same... * We will allow others to pick up your packet for you - but they must have the form that is posted on our web site authorizing that. You'd probably not be surprised that some people lie about this and use it as a way to get an entry - go figure... * On Sunday AM (while you are running) we'll be hosting the 2nd annual YMCA/LFM Kid's Mini-Marathon. We'll have a whole bunch of kids running from mile 25 through the finish - that starts at 9 AM. If you are interested in having your child participate, the link to the program is on our web site. * We will again have special "FINISHER" shirts for purchase at the finish line - along with merchandise remaining from the Expo. * We will also continue our tradition as the host of one of the best Finish Line parties around. We'll have food for you runners (only), food and coffee for purchase by your friends and families, AND that wonderful Milwaukee Ale House brew. The Ale House is a long-time sponsor of LFM and an organizer of many charitable events in the Milwaukee area. We are very excited by the response for our race Expo on Friday evening and Saturday! We will have more vendors than ever before and will, again, have a nice schedule of speakers. We also wanted to let you know that there are still rooms available at the Hyatt. Here is the information from our site: The Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Milwaukee 333 W. Kilbourn Ave 414-276-1234 or 800-233-1234. $114 Single/Double. Ask for Lakefront Marathon group rate as per Sabrina Kelly. We ALWAYS need more volunteers. If you find that you can't run the race, consider volunteering or encouraging your friends and family to help out. As you know, runners really appreciate volunteers! We provide a really nice sweatshirt to them. 2009 - If you are already thinking of your 2009 calendar... we will be on our usual first Sunday in October - October 4. Registration will open soon after the first of the year. As always - we thank you for your support of the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon! If any of the information at the top of the message is wrong, please contact me via email. (pauline@northwoodsoft.com) - Pauline Shoemaker, Registration Captain
