River City Runners of Louisville

Downtown Doubler - 9/20/09 (Read 319 times)

Anyone else doing this race, either the 30k or the 15k?

Fleet Feet has changed hands, as most of you know, but I believe this race is still related to Camille Estes' River City Racers outfit.

Anyway, I'm signed up for the 30k that Sunday.  Hoping to use it as a decent training race leading up to a marathon in October.

“I used to be a runner. Uh-huh. Not a marathoner. A runner. Marathons are bullshit. They’re all hype. Some official picks a random day, and rain or cold, you’re out there pounding the pavement alongside 50,000 other dumbfucks. No. There’s some things it’s better to do all by yourself.” Augustus Hill, Oz

Heh.  That's more or less what bdub told me this morning.

I'm considering the 15k as a trainer for a half in October.  Although I'm not too excited about doing yet another race up and down River Rd..

What's the story on water...no stations in the past?  or just poorly supplied?

             BTDT myself.

            It's a moderately ho-hum course, too.

When I ran it, the water fountain in the park counted as the far end water stop--7.5k and 22.5k water stop.

Who considers a f-ing water fountain a water stop for a RACE?

Apparently, same parties botched one of the 10 Milers.

My experience in the 15k was the basis for my forming of this group instead of joining the FF-centric one.  I saw my fellow runners who were on the 30k break down from lack of water.

Theoretically, it was of the 15k-ers' faults.  At least 600 bottles (6 oz) of water were purchased (whatever the number was--it worked out to 2 or 3 bottles per person).  [The preceeding statements are paraphrasing quotes overheard from a race representative.]

The 15k would be a good trainer.  You'll have adequate water if only doing the first loop.  It's the second one that ends up under-supplied.

Dude, that's now like 6 reasons not to run that race, lol.  For better or worse, I'll be ready to add to the lore mid September.

                    More fodder.

Lack of water was not today's issue.  There was plenty of it, although it was served vertically and without cups.

There were only three water stops this time (not including the water fountain at the turn around, heh), although given the nature of the race route, I passed a water stop five times during the 30k and once at he finish (which also had a sad collection of foodstuffs).

The shirts were pretty decent tech shirts, but otherwise the event seemed a little half-assed.  Of course, my recent preparation for the race was entirely half-assed, so it's hard to complain.

Also, the course ran a little long as some cross-country running was necessary near the water tower due to rain / standing water issues.

Probably won't do it again, but not a bad morning.

As predicted.  I like their shorter races (the ones Camille runs now, I guess).  They have the same amount of refreshment.
