Louisville Marathon/Half (Read 266 times)

Anyone in this year?  Early registration ends Friday. (although it's only $10 more for late).

I have been planning on doing the half but just haven't committed yet.  Training didn't get to where I wanted it to be and I'm not sure if I want to spend $50 to be disappointed...but since this will be my first half at least it'll be a PR.

Not going to be able to do it this year.  Have a good run though if you do it.  I've run it before, and it's a lonely run...very few people out to watch.  And, the scenery isn't much except for the river...but there seemed to be enough water stops and the pullover sweatshirt is very nice.

Thinking about the full.  I am running Indy on Saturday.  Why not do both, eh?  Any word on whether the course is going to be changed according to the route that was planned for last year?  I have emailed the RD several times and not gotten any response.

I'm running somewhere tomorrow. It's going to be beautiful. I can't wait.

        Poor baby

I am registered for the full.  If my right calf cooperates I'm trying to go all out.  Of course, it won't.  But I hope the weather is agreeable.

Trent, no idea re: the course.  As you know, they have not yet posted this year's (official) course on their site.

“I used to be a runner. Uh-huh. Not a marathoner. A runner. Marathons are bullshit. They’re all hype. Some official picks a random day, and rain or cold, you’re out there pounding the pavement alongside 50,000 other dumbfucks. No. There’s some things it’s better to do all by yourself.” Augustus Hill, Oz

Onion, what is your all out?

Oh, one other thing...the last time I ran it, the water stops were stocked with HEED(?).  Nasty stuff.  Avoid it if you can.  Unless, of course, it's your all-time favorite sports drink.  Then, by all means...

                I like this review:

Weaknesses:It tastes like the dogs butt the first time you try it. By a blessing of nature, the human mind can get used to anything over time... Now I've grown quite fond of it. Actually, its got a mild taste unlike Gatorade or Endurox which may be a good thing during really long events.

How do you think the reviewer knows what a dog's butt tastes like?

Not sure...but the fact that he's grown fond of it makes me worry a little for his dogs.
My dog would bring him a stogie herself.  Yeah, she's got a problem.

                      We've Got Big Hills

I just called the phone number on the website:

                        1. Same course as usual
                        2. I can register at the expo
                        3. HEED on course

Not sure what dog's butt is like, but remembrances of Heed weren't as bad as I imagine that to be.  It just had a funny flavor to me.  But according to the other reviewers at the aforementioned site, it's good for short (sub 2 hr) runs which would be ideal for this race I suppose.

Now, if I could only run a half in less than 2 hours.

Onion, what is your all out?

This is a good question.  I felt like I had a pretty good summer, but a dismal September due mostly to a nagging calf injury.  I expect the next to weeks may be pretty spotty, even considering tapering.

That said, for this race, maybe an 8:30 pace.  Start there at the least and see where I am.

If you run both Indy and Louisville, Trent, do you have a goal in mind for Sunday?  Is it, I'd guess, a little slower than for your Saturday?

Well, after my pathetic last few weeks due to influenza and a lingering cough and fatigue, both races will be totally off goal.  I am now just hoping to PR at Indy, which is 3:49 or better.  Then I will take Louisville based on how I feel.  It would be nice to go sub-4, but who really knows.

I am doing the full and it will be my first marathon.  That has been my issue both this year and last.  I have e-mailed the RD and have never gotten a response.  Last year it was on the supposed course change and this year was something else, but no response.

My back is in spasms right now, but I hoep to be better by race day.  Shooting for sub-4 but all I'd really like to do is finish.  Good luck to all who run.
