Road Racing for Serious Runners - Pfitzinger/Douglas (Read 570 times)

This is another good book on training for distances from 5k up to the marathon. If you've already read Advanced Marathoning you will notice a lot of repeated information in the beginning part of the book. It has a lot of great training schedules for all sorts of distances.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

Which of those two books do you think would be more beneficial for a slow-poke training for a first marathon? I'm looking at ordering one of them from Amazon.com.

Getting the wind knocked out of you is the only way to

remind your lungs how much they like the taste of air.

As Bonkin has said, both cover much of the same science/theory, but the training plans are specific to the race distance. I'd go with the Advanced Marathon if you're focused on that.

Kirsten, I would definitely go with Advanced Marathoning over this one. The marathon schedules are intimidating for a first timer, but you will learn a LOT about everything else you need to know.
