100km World Championships in South Africa Cancelled*

It is with deep regret we announce that the 100km World Championships
scheduled for South Africa have been cancelled.

Despite our many efforts and investigating many different possibilities we
have to inform you about the cancellation of this event.

100km is an important event on our racing calendar and significant for our
athletes. We are trying our best to investigate other avenues.

We are still attempting to have the championships this year and have been
in talks with the Emirates. We will post information on this in the next
    few days.

Athletes and Officials do need to know soon about the venue of the race
(and the status of the championships) and we are attempting to
    get answers in a hurry.

We apologize for this recent cancellation. If you have any questions,
please do not hesitate to contact us.

That sucks. US women were going to kick ass again. Pam Smith was telling me it might get cancelled.

Yes it sucks - It happened to me in the 2011 24 hour race.  The IAU awards the race and then the group awarded the race backs out.  The cost is so high, that it is hard to pull together enough funds on short notice to take over.

With USA recent success in 100k and 24 hour, the hope is some day companies will see more value in spending money to sponsor one of these races and it will be in the USA!

It is not just the money, you also need a location that is reasonably easy to travel to internationally, good hotel logistic and enough volunteers to put on a high quality event.

But the $750,000+ is hard to get ...
