WS100 Lottery (Read 585 times)

L Train

HoosierDaddy and past Monkey winner Traci Falbo are in.

I assume this means you are out (or did I miss the post)?

    Uh oh... now what?

Y'all can call me Jane if you want, but ... how does that Slam entry stuff work?

For some reason, I had some crazy idea that there might be some entry "exceptions" made for Slam-wannabes who make it through the WS hurdle.

I just posed the question on the 'list since I could not verify

      what I thought I knew.  My e-mail:

      -----------------------

It used to be a simple thing, run the four and get a nice plaque.

Now, for most, you have to get through the lottery, and then...

I was looking at the Vermont 100 Web site and did not see any special

      consideration for 'Slammers.

I think anybody with beating heart can get in Leadville.

I looked at Wasatch Web site and did not see any special consideration

      for 'Slammers.

Has the Grand Slam turned into a logistical nightmare rather than

the running challenge it once was?

      -----------------------

Will update if anyone is interested in the response(s).

Thanks, John. Will be interested to see the response.

(BTW - I am NOT considering a Slam bid!!)

First response (said to be on the Vermont 100 Facebook page):

          Hello Race Fans!

Just a note to remind everyone hat while our 100 MILE distance

is full at this time, We ARE taking a waiting list and I do expect to

be able to bring in plenty of folks from the wait list once the WS

lottery is drawn and our Grand Slammers are settles.

Additionally, We do have about 45 slots left in our 100 K distance!

We hope to see you all in VT this summer!

          ------------------

There is a place on the Wasatch online entry form for "Are you entering the Grand Slam?"  If I recall correctly, there is an informal process, where anyone that got into Western and entered the Slam would be accepted at Wasatch.

Wasatch allows you in if you aren't drawn in lottery and IF you complete the other three.

Leadville actually does fill up fairly quickly like all other 100s now.  And they don't make exceptions from what I hear.

Would be a shame not to get in b/c of Vermont.  And while the 100k invite sounds nice, I would rather do the remaining 38 if I head out Smile

Missed out for the 4th straight year.

As they keep removing quallifying races, it makes it harder and harder for me to qualify from a logistics standpoint. UGH

Enough of my pity party, congrats to all that made it!

From somewhere else (someone reliable, but you don't know me so that doesn't mean much, eh):

"I didn't look to see where it was written, but VT does have a special

consideration for slammers. Wasatch always has had the condition that
if you finished the first 3, you were in as long as you went through
                    the lottery process.

I laughed about getting into Leadville with a beating heart! You
certainly can't have a fear of crowds and you must have your
registration fee in January, because it won't be open long. They too,
will save spots for slammers who miss the registration.

If you get into WS, you can manage to get in all the races."

Just tell them I sent you.  That and a really big paper sack full of unmarked bills should do the trick.

For some reason, I thought that it was still Vermont OR Old Dominion. According to run100's, that ended a while back.

Congratulations to everyone who got in!  My buddy, Kate Merrill, got in, her pacer from 2010 has agreed to pace her again, and her sister and I will be crewing for her again, so the whole gang's going back.  Should be fun!

Anyone who has run WS before - appreciate thoughts on accommodations.  Thinking 3-4 days pre race and then a night in Auburn.  Imagine will have 4-6 ppl in tow.

                              Thanks,

Looking forward to seeing ya'll at mile 85.  I'll be doing the ALT aid station again this year with my running club.  We've got three folks running it as well, including one guy who has gotten in 4 years in a row.  Yeah, not sure why he isn't buying powerball lottery tickets instead.
