Badwater (organized) in danger? (Read 105 times)

I just read this and if this is 1) true and 2) the real reason for no permits it was a good call. I've worked at ORNL enough to know this is not something to ignore.

They wouldn't have workers living there full time if it was true.

It was discussed and disproved on the ultralist. I will have to find some of the stuff that people far more knowledgeable than me posted about it, but it was quickly shot down.

Sounded a bit excessive. Glad that's not an issue. But if you are ever invited to run through Oak Ridge National Labs (not Y-12) areas definitely take precautions.

I've worked there before - they give you a badge if you're going to be there any length of time, or do work at the nasty areas.  It's very beautiful there!

It is very beautiful. First time I drove on site I had a bobcat cross the street in front of the car and so much more.

That area of the part of the country is very pretty if your an outdoor type.

A survey of 2012 Badwater 135 Ultramarathon runners revealed that each runner and their support crew spend a combined average of $9379 to participate in the race

Why I will never run badwater (if it is held) ~ $10 grand ... that is just stupid money

I am fuller bodied than Dopplebock

Many a Badwater Crossing was done before it became an organized event.  A few still do it the old way.  If Badwater (the new incarnation) does not include Death Valley, do it be having an asterisk?  Maybe up here or down here -- They lost the top eleven miles, now they will chop off however many from the front and still call it Badwater?  Sure, why not?
