I love this idea of virtual races! b/c of money I don't enter too many races so I also like to have this sort of motivation to really push myself on a run!

Always helps.
You should take a look around in your area for some free races. I am one of the sponsors of a 19 week free weekly 5k series here in Portland, Maine, and we've had hundreds of folks come out this year to run. It's been great.

Free races ?! I seriously doubt there are to many of these around, your series is the first I've ever heard of. The cheapest races I've ever done were at least a couple of bucks ,local all-comers track meets, or really small no frills races (no shirts, no awards, just a group of people on a measured course at the same time)

We offer free running shoes for a year for the top male/top female runner with the best cumulative time for their top 6 races (run at least 6 races to be in the standings, max of 18 or 19 races to try for a good time in depending upon what year it is.)
I think there's also a few extra pairs of shoes for random awards that are as yet undecided.
(Disclaimer: I provide the website, Mizuno provides the shoes, Maine Running and Portland Trails provide everything else.)
