Run to live; live to run

Today is 12 13 14. Last time we will have a date like this for a long time.

Travel today. Left dads at 6 to drive back to Orlando. Dense fog through most of it. At gate waiting for flight. Leave in about an hour

Visit was okay. Some odd comments but I just let them go. Glad to be going home.

One more work trip next week then no more for the year. It is just an overnight trip so not too bad.

Tessa I hope you all are okay with the storms!  Saw there was a tornado in LA

Gatsby see you got rain, all be it too much at once. Hope not too bad by you.

      Marjorie

Let's see... Saturday followed Friday, with Sunday to follow Saturday.  Right sequence to far!  I did an easy 8 mile run with my RC this morning.  Yes, there was a great deal of rain in the Bay Area on Thursday and Friday!  Certain areas had flooding, downed trees, and power outages but nothing happened here, other than lots of leaves and eucalyptus debris littering my yard.  So today I will be outside cleaning up.  Right after I finish some more coffee.

Marjorie, glad the visit to dad was tolerable.  Safe travels home.

Damaris, hope your marathon went well today! goes well tomorrow (just checked the date!).

Tessa, hope you and SoCal came through the storm okay.  Heard of some problems with mudslides and flooding.  Going back to yesterday's thread now to read your RR from yesterday.

        Greetings to everyone else!

PIlates and 5 easy miles today. Tomorrow is the last race of my running club's race series - a 15K. I need to finish 6th or better to stay in first in my age group (8 races in the series, 2 throw outs, and I have 4 firsts, a second and 2 DNS which are my throw outs).

Tessa, great RR! Always fun to read.

Marjorie, glad the visit with your dad went okay. How is he liking living in Florida?

Gatsby, glad to see you guys finally got rain. I swear, nothing happens on a small scale in CA. Three years of drought, then you want rain? Okay, we'll give you rain! So, are you going to BQ in a spring marathon next year or wait until next fall?

Did the same mountain bike loops as last Sunday (around 10 miles) and finished in exactly the same time.  Slow but ran all of the hills and the whole time but for one look at a sign and for one mountain biker.  Felt good to feel strong, even if I was going slower, and a bit odd since up until last Sunday I've never been able to run all of the hills on that same trail.

Finished putting up Christmas decorations.  Just need to do the tree tomorrow.  DD flies in tonight from Miami.  We'll see her tomorrow. Looking forward to that!

Was a course marshal at a holiday 5k this afternoon.  Earning a $30 voucher which I can use for one of their upcoming races.  Great turnout and my arm is sore from pointing to the left for over an hour since I was at a spot where they went from a sidewalk across grass to a street.

Tessa-great RR on the 50k!  Glad it wasn't a Sharknado!

Karen-what did you end up with for the Pilates picture?

Gatsby-good to hear you're all okay.  My sister is well provisioned and has a generator just in case.  I think she went to the casino tho so all seems to be fine in her part of Sonoma.

Marjorie-I bet you'll be happy to stay home and enjoy your awesome decorations! no run?

Tessa, great race report.  Congrats on big time improvement.

              Karen, good luck tomorrow!

Demaris, good luck to you, too!

Marjorie, I wouldn't have noticed the sequential date if you hadn't  mentioned it. Glad the visit with your dad was OK.

I did 5 easy today.  With staying at my mom's, I have only managed 2-3 mi per day the last few days. I don't sleep well there and am usually beat.  On the plus side, it was gorgeous here.  63 and sunny.

I'm dealing with more family drama.   I can't wait for May!!  I hope I don't feel too guilty to leave.

Modified: Gatsby, I'm glad to see your note that everything is ok for you.  Some of the pics on the news were impressive.

Lisa, last week must have given you the confidence you need on the hills.  A breakthrough!

Run to live; live to run

No run Lisa. I'd have had to get up super early to get it in since I had to leave at 6. Didn't get home until 430. Will do nice run tomorrow.

Dh and I are laughing so hard as we are making the jib jab cards with the dogs. I put one on fb. The other I haven't put yet but omg seeing the dogs heads on there is just so funny. The one I just did was to Feliz Navidad. So funny I was crying from laughing so hard.

                Marjorie

Tessa, great job at Ridgecrest and congrats on the PR!  Enjoyable RR as usual.

Karen, BQ attempt no. 1 will be at Santa Rosa in August, and if needed, BQ attempt no. 2 will be at CIM in December.  I don't have anything on my racing calendar yet for the spring.  Might do a HM or two (which my DH prefers) but my RC friends are all talking about 50Ks.

Lisa, nice of you to volunteer for the 5k (and nice of the RD to give you a $30 voucher!).  On Sunday you should stand and point to the right with the other arm for an hour just to even things out.

Camille, sorry there's more family drama.  Hopefully getting out for a couple miles each day gives you time for peace and quiet.

Marjorie, jib jab is funny stuff.

Marjorie - Glad you made it home safe from your travels!  Your puppies jibjab was adorable!!!

Gatsby - Glad things are ok for you with the weather!  Awesome that you are trying BQ Smile

                    Karen - Enjoy the 15k!

Camille - Sorry about the family drama Sad    Sounds like nice weather at least!

Lisa - Nice score on a $30 voucher for a race, was this thru Running Fit?  Great trail run too.  Bet you can't wait to see DD!

10k yesterday,  56:52....I was happy with it.  Best thing I felt great the whole time - obviously didn't push hard enough....LOL.  I actually settled in behind/beside a man running my pace, after he came up to me and said "great race" , and I thanked him for the nice steady pace!   Also a young lady came up beside me final minutes and said "come on, I will race you in"....thought I was going to throw up, but I hung on.....this is why I race...for the fun!

                    Happy Sunday!

Ok, I have to pick your brains on how to help one of our RB's...long story short...she freaks out before races, then gets really down on herself for not running well.  Partly she thinks that EVERY time she runs she needs to go fast, thinks the only way to run faster it to train faster.  Therefore she makes it a few miles and starts breaking down.  We have tried to explain to her.....all runs have different benefits.  That you don't do try to make ever run fast.  She has a Garmin, but doesn't wear it.  She asked one RB to pace her yesterday, and it ended up a disaster for her.  She starts out too fast, can't get her breathing under control, and then just falls apart.  She did R2R and did just fine, so she has the fitness....Thoughts????

Carol, would your RB listen to a coach or follow a training plan with specific workouts (e.g. long SLOW runs)?  She clearly isn't listening to your good advice and these issues are all within her head.  Sometimes it takes a new voice or different perspective for people to listen.

Run to live; live to run

                          13.2 for me

i wonder if she will never listen until she gets hurt, Carol?  It is a hard concept for people to not think they have to train at the pace they want in order to run at that pace. It is hard to understand running slow can make you faster. People just cannot imagine how running at x pace and rarely at y will allow them to run at y later on and sustain it. It doesn't ever sound logical.

Ran a 1:15:21. It was way harder than it should have been. I miss my fitness. But it was good enough for 3rd in the 40-49 AG, which means it was definitely better than 6th in the 45-49 AG, which means I won the series. And it turns out I've only run two 15Ks before, one back in 2011 when I was a lot slower and one last year that I ran with my sister at her pace, when she was injured, the day after I ran Indy Monumental Marathon. So while I'd like to have run faster today, turns out it's still like a 20 minute PR. Guess my 15K PR was a little soft.

Lisa, nice run. Sounds like your taper is going well for Huff. I haven't done a Pilates picture yet. We have until the end of December to do it. I keep going back and forth between wanting a great picture and thinking "someone else could use it more" so don't worry about it.

camille, sorry about the family drama. Sometimes it's not so bad to be many miles away from the family.

Gatsby, good plan. Whatever you decide for spring, run lots of miles. Seriously, you are close enough to a BQ that if you just run more miles you can probably get it.

Carol, nice job on the 10K. Sounds like you raced smart - felt good all the way, then finished feeling like you were going to throw up! Perfect.

Wish I had some advice for you on your friend. I've found it hard to convince people that running slow pays off. I know someone that's been trying to BQ (she needs a 3:45) for a couple years and is very frustrated. She runs her easy runs probably a minute a mile faster than I do, yet my PRs are faster than hers at pretty much every distance. I've suggested slowing down and just running more easy miles, but she says she "can't, it's too hard to run slower". Maybe challenge your friend to do some progression runs - start slow and speed up as she goes, and she'll see that that actually works much better than starting off fast and blowing up. Feels better too.

Marjorie, nice run. Glad to be back home? I saw the dog stuff you posted on fb - hilarious.

                                Hi ladies-

Sorry I've been so MIA. Between work and holiday stuff, it's been crazy. I've been keeping up with everyone, though.

I did run a half last weekend - it's a local one, and this is my sixth straight year doing it. I was pleased with how it went, even though it wasn't very fast - 2:03:24, which is 10 minutes slower than my PR. But I didn't know how my legs would feel after the marathon, so I took a conservative approach. I went out fairly slowly for the first six miles and then, since I was feeling good, I pushed the pace the rest of the way. My last two miles were well under a 9:00 minute pace, and I was happy with how strong I felt at the finish.

Tessa - nice RR for Ridgecrest, and nice job on the PR!

Lisa - glad that your trail runs have been going so well. Enjoy the time with your DD.

Carol - great race. It feels good to finish strong, doesn't it?

Karen - congrats on the series win, and on the PR!

Marjorie - glad that the visit with your dad went ok.

Gatsby - I haven't been on to say nice job on your marathon! I can't wait to hear how your BQ efforts go.

Camille - sorry about the family drama. That's got to be tough.
