Notes
Original plan was 10 miles of 1/2 mile at 5:10 pace, 1/2 mile at 5:30 pace. There were 18 mph winds and during the strides on my warm-up, it felt like I was running backwards, so I decided to scrap it and run 10 miles of 3:00 fast/3:00 medium on the Boomer route.
I felt pretty crappy at first (probably because I started running up a very gradual mile uphill, into the wind) but got faster as the workout progressed. I was hurting a little bit towards the end and struggled on the uphills. The downhills were pretty uncomfortable because with my A4's on, they really put a hammering on my legs.
I really didn't enjoy this workout. The hills made it very rough and it was really windy. Not to mention, I wasn't getting any pace feedback from my watch. When I run my marathon-specific workouts, I try to get a feel for the pace, stay as relaxed and efficient as possible and feel like a thoroughbred racing horse.
When I run these type of workouts, they can frequently turn into an ugly, scrappy, cat fight. They aren't as conventional as a cliche marathon workout, however, they make me race mean.
Afterward, my legs were really heavy and worn-out. I may not have enjoyed it while I was running it but all-in-all, it was a good session. I feel the hills and weather added close to 10 seconds a mile.
Ended up at 54:21 for 10 miles.
