Notes
That was a *heck* of a great race. I went out expecting to be able to pull about a 1:32—beating that by 3 minutes flat surprised me a lot. The course, while hilly, was very doable with the training base I had under me on similar hills, and felt a good deal faster than I expected.
The weather was fantastic.
My pre-race fueling plan—a scrambled egg with cheese about an hour and a half out, and then a small glass of chocolate milk about a half hour out—worked *really* well; I will do it again. Mid-race, I got in the gel at 5 miles, and about half the gel at 10 miles. I think I'd have been better trying to take it at 9 miles, for two reasons. First, I couldn't get it down while working on mile 11; it was just sitting too heavily on my stomach, in part because I was feeling so tired. Second, that fatigue level indicates to me that I needed the fuel a tad earlier.
Still, this was an outstanding event. I will definitely be doing the race again next year.
Can't wait to see how I can do if I stay consistent over the next year.
Top 2% overall, top 8% in men my age, top 4% among men.
