Notes
So, I think this is the first race I lost because of crappy execution, rather than just not being fast enough.
There was snow on the polo-grounds and on much of the trail. I took a look around at the starting line and didn't see any of the usual faces. Moonpie was pacing his girlfriend, so he wasn't a threat. When the gun went off I took off like a bolt. I hadn't had enough time to warm up, so my pacing was kinda non-existent. A guy at the 1/4 mile called out "1:13" as I passed. Holy crap. I paid for it 400m later when my legs turned to lead.
What a disastrous start.
Approaching the 1mi mark I could hear Brian coming up behind me. He passed me and slowly just kept pulling away over the next 1.7miles. Two hairpins were nasty turns. A mile 2 I sprained my ankle with the same way I did it in the summer time. Seemed runnable, so I kept moving.
Back over the snowy polo grounds and toward the finish. 18:34. About a minute faster than last year on the same course. I think this year was a bit slower because of the snow too.
2nd OA. #1 was 21, i think.
