| Notes: | I had a high BP reading before the test possibly caused by my neighbor smoking pot and cigarettes. My reading was 140/90, which is borderline but I'm not sure if it affected my run, and if it did in a positive or negative way. My stomach was also giving my problems for some reason even though I didn't eat anything for several hours. Other than that, I was fully rested (3 days off) and ready.
I started with some strides, but only did 4, because I was feeling that they were sapping my energy. I divided the straight course into 6x2 min splits to pace myself, but right off the bat I committed a rookie mistake and just ran it too damn fast. My first lap was under 7 min/mile pace which for me was untenable. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th laps were a bit slower and I felt OK but definitely pushing myself (I think I barely broke 7 min mile). The 5th lap definitely hit me hard and I had to slow down to 7:30. The last lap was a nightmare, although apparently not that much slower. At the end I was totally exhausted and had some pain in the lungs.
According to the test, I ran 2670 meters, which is just 30m shy of the "excellent" conditioning for males of my age group. I guess I should be happy, except for the inability to sustain an even pace. My VO2max is apparently 48.4 according to the Cooper formula, which seems quite high. Daniels' formula gives 41.4 which is more reasonable. Next time, I should try running negative splits starting with 7:30 pace for the first lap. |
