| Notes: | Not sure how to even log this run, It was a race but sure didn't feel like it. Myself along with probably 15 other runners should have been DQ. I ended up 7th but probably would have been 4th.
Much faster field than I had expected a few very fast local runners showed up I believe the winning time was in the low 15 min. It was at a high school and the course we were running was the high school track and cross country training route. I went out easy and slowly picked off a lot of inexperienced high school runners in the first mile to move up to 6th. I was running with 3 other high school kids and the front pack of 3 had broken away and were 20 seconds ahead, just far enough to loose sight of them on some winding streets. The high school kids must have forgotten the course and led me and about 10 other runners the wrong way (cut off .3 miles). The race director / high school coach made us stop to wait for the 3rd place guy to catch up before we could continue the race. Which gave me plenty of time to complain. He didn't like me complaining.
He got a little shitty with me when I told him to teach his own runner the course or actually have it marked with organizers on the course. I think what set him off was when i told him he should have maps of the course available to the participants. I told him I should be DQ and he must have decided to but didn't DQ any of his own kids. Once the 3rd place runner passed a group of about 7 of us who didn't double back and run the extra section were released to finish running. At this point I didn't care and didn't push very hard which allowed 3 runners between myself and 3rd place.
I was third in my age group but he didn't announce my name for an award.
Disappointed with race director. My actually time for the 2.8 miles I estimate should have been closer to 15:25 - 15:30 since I did not stop my watch right away when we were help up or with the initial confusion of going the wrong way. |
