Notes

Woke up around 5:30 to find it raining and chilly. A little different from the past two MDI's that i've run, but i wasn't going to be discouraged. Great to see so many friendly, and fast faces at the start line. As the anthem was playing i was full of jitters, not knowing how things were going to go. My taper period really got screwed up with getting a cold and Planter fasciitis. I felt like i really wasn't in shape to eve break 3, but boy was i in for a surprise.

Took off feeling decent but by mile 4 i was aready tired. Light rain and some wind made it interesting, but not unbearable. I settled into a nice pace with the rolling hills and just let the hills come and go. Really relaxing on the hills and just letting things flow. Seemed to work really nicely. Half way was about 1:27 mid and i felt confident that i could at least break 3 at this point and continue my streak of sub 3's in each year since 2010. Continued with the relaxed pace, but honestly kept thinking to myself "come 21, its going to get ugly". Never did, slowed down a bit, but kept it under 7's and didn't bonk for a first time! My legs honestly felt dead after 15 miles, but i continued on. Did my best to chase down a guy about a half mile ahead of me, and nearly caught him but he powered on through the last 2 miles and dropped me with 0.2 to go. Very content with nearly a 3(2:52) minute PB. I guess i was well rested.

As for fueling i took GU's at 5.5, 10.75, 15.75, and 19.75. Worked for me since i didn't bonk. Pleased with that. Water with the GU's and Gatorade in between.
