wow, i can really see where I went wrong here. If I had been paying better attention, I would've been able to pick it up and crush. This was a legitimate mile, too, so that first 35 was actually even faster since it was 209m.

I was so nervous before this race. The night before on the carride down, I ate like 800 calories in milano cookies, which while delicious, made my stomach absolutely die. I had to fart like a motherfucker, and being stuck in a van for 6 hours with other people, I was not going to do that. Then, when we went to applebee's for dinner, I didn't feel like I was going to fart a ton, but my stomach was NOT happy with my choice of burger and fries. Namely the fries. the fries killed me. I thought i was going to have to make myself puke. twas not going to be fun. I got a full night's sleep the night before (both nights, actually), and in the morning I had half a bagel with cream cheese (worried about gluten), a packet of instant oatmeal from caci, and a couple danishes and some orange juice. when i got to the meet, i had the two clif bars I had been saving.

I was a nervous fucking wreck. i was pacing a circle into the ground. it was my first track race since highschool, and I had only JUST started doing track workouts like 8 days prior.

So then I went out there, nervous as fuck, and as we were being taken out behind the track to the starting line, I saw a cute girl from penn state. "Will you get dinner with me if I win?" Her friends laughed, and she was taken aback. No real response.

Boom, the gun goes off. I just go. I take it easy, because I know how motherfuckers do, but in a race with most people seeded 5:10 to 5:20, I had to still lay down the law. Connor Murray (I think that's his last name) of MRun was also going for 5:00, and he just went. After the race, he said he needs to go out in the front like that to do well, so that's good that he had a plan of some sort. I chased him down in the first 800m and then just shot right past him. Ain't nothin but a G-thang. And I just kept passing people. I just kept going. And going. And they didn't even ring the bell for me, but I still knew when I had to stop. Boom. 4:52.99. And it was easy. At no point did I really feel like I was going too hard or too fast. I was planning on hitting BARELY 5:00, and instead, I crushed it. I look forward to doing better next time.

I chatted with the Penn State girl, Jessica, briefly, but she left before I could get her number.
