| Notes: | I'm a bit disappointed at not breaking 35:00. 35:00 would equate to the competitive corral at the Shamrock Shuffle (although you cannot qualify for it using outside races). I felt I had a very good shot at it based on the 4.5m race at Thanksgiving, but it was not in the cards today. Pacing was a real struggle, and mile 4 was painful.
Based on past races, I am wondering if I could have bettered my performance by running miles 1 and 2 at 7:10 pace, then stepping things up at the end. Would it have made that much of a difference? I kinda doubt it. I still think I would have had problems in mile 4 ... the speed endurance just wasn't there today.
Its hardly a bad race performance. Its right in line with my McMillan prediction based on the Chicago 3:29. I finished in the top 10%. Race conditions were a little below ideal (some ice on course, etc.).
Bottom line: either I had an ok day, and the Dash was a good day -- or I had a down, but not bad, day.
Postscript: Shamrock Shuffle time for the competitive corral is actually < 0:35:59. I feel slightly better. |
