About me:
RI Road Runners member since 2004 (click on my home-spun profile page link above-right for PR's and Training Log).
Why I started running:
In 2003, I was doing a lot of walking, I had dropped 60 pounds. One of my guitar students was a runner for his high school cross country team. We often talked about his races. I started to get interested when he talked about all the local races. He suggested trying one. So in March, 2003, I decided to run the Arnold's Mills July 4th Race in Cumberland, RI. So, to start training, I ran 1 lap of a track. The next day I ran 2. I built up to a 5-miler and about 15-20 miles per week. I ran the race (31:25) and had one of the best times of my life. I was hooked, and then proceeded to run a race almost every week after that! Not too smart for a beginner, but what did I know? I even did the Blessing Of The Fleet 10-miler for my 3rd race on very little base and one 10-mile training run. Now, I'm doing marathons. Life is good.
